Why degreased the hinge bearings, won’t you have to regrease them ? How different are the Mooney control surfaces from other makes? Do other makes not shim the elevators and rudder? Quote

Mooney uses more shim washers in fittings than any other type I’ve worked on. Very often the ones on the elevators and rudder go missing when they are removed for repairs, it’s easy to spot. The fittings on the stabilizer get pinched when the washer is left out, shining a strong light from below reveals bolt shank where the washer should be. In the picture you can see that the outer sides of the fitting are not parallel, the inner side in slightly bent. Loosening and removing the bolt allows the washer to be installed. Clarence Quote

MIm20c Posted April 14, 2020 Report Posted April 14, 2020 Also would like to know the cost for a long body, especially with the current exchange rate... Quote
BorealOne Posted April 14, 2020 Author Report Posted April 14, 2020 The original quote for base while + 2 colours (full strip, acid, alodine, minor bodywork, and complete paint and trim) was 25.5k CDN - about $18.5k USD. Main gear + wells were another 2k extra, as was the extra colour stripe in my scheme. All in all very pleased with the work quality and communication. 1 Quote
ArtVandelay Posted April 14, 2020 Report Posted April 14, 2020 Also would like to know the cost for a long body, especially with the current exchange rate... Understand quotes vary based on # colors required, which colors (red is like a $1000/gal), whether they’re metallic, body work (standard is 8 hours included, some used 16), etc etc A scheme designer will cost an extra $2K if you use one. Edit: Don’t forget taxes, Florida has none, some states are 10% or more. 1 Quote
