Tcraft938 Posted November 25, 2019 Report Posted November 25, 2019 I’m curious if anyone has had a G5 or two for awhile and has done the upgrade that will give you true airspeed, wind direction and speed? My understanding it needs something like GAD 33 installed. How hard and expensive with that? Thanks Quote
carusoam Posted November 25, 2019 Report Posted November 25, 2019 Sounds like you are looking for a Garmin air data computer... Have a look around here... you may find people have discussed what you are looking for.... https://mooneyspace.com/search/?&q=Gad&search_and_or=or&sortby=relevancy Best regards, -a- Quote
NicoN Posted November 25, 2019 Report Posted November 25, 2019 I think, you need an OATP-Sensor installed in addition to the air-data-computer and GPS I think, you need an OATP-Sensor installed in addition to the air-data-computer and GPS Quote

I did not personally install it of have it installed but I do see the GAD 33 listed on my equipment list. I thought that is what they were using to couple it to the KFC 200 auto pilot, or to couple the AHRS to the G500 so its the auto pilots primary attitude reference. I may VERY well be wrong. Quote
BDPetersen Posted November 25, 2019 Report Posted November 25, 2019 If you buy the package the GAD 33 is a part of it. About $500, as I recall. Mine is still on my todo list. Quote
Jim Peace Posted November 25, 2019 Report Posted November 25, 2019 I have two G5's but all I have to do is go into a page on my GTN and I can see the info with some inputs....most if not all of the inputs are already there...not sure why it cant be displayed on the G5 somehow and save 500 bucks 1 Quote

ottorecker Posted November 25, 2019 Report Posted November 25, 2019 Garmin GAD 13 (FAA-PMA) added to the CAN-bus and a Davtron OAT probe. About $240 plus install. More $ if you want the Garmin OAT probe. I have the Davtron probe and it works fine. Quote

Exactly why when I install my G5, I’ll put in the GAD33, because, you know, it’s only an extra $500. If it was $800, I probably wouldn’t. Garmin must have some scary algorithm that knows exactly how to price their stuff. Quote
