ZuluZulu Posted October 17, 2019 Report Posted October 17, 2019 "Under the terms of the confidential agreement, uAvionix will be able to continue offering and supporting these products in the market." Press release here; AOPA story here.
kris_adams Posted October 17, 2019 Report Posted October 17, 2019 this is great news. While I didn't go with this option, it's a pretty cool solution considering the ADSB in options they are working on as well. -K
MBDiagMan Posted October 18, 2019 Report Posted October 18, 2019 I wonder how much it cost them? Must not have been too much since they’re still in business.
SantosDumont Posted October 18, 2019 Report Posted October 18, 2019 (edited) IMO in the not too distant future: Garmin announces the acquisition of uAvionix. Edited October 18, 2019 by SantosDumont
EricJ Posted October 18, 2019 Report Posted October 18, 2019 I'm always curious how stuff like this went down. Did the acquisition of Aerovonix bring with it some patents that were threatening to Garmin, so they reached detente? Did the uAvionix financial backers spread some influence into the equation? There are all sorts of intriguing possibilities. Usually the reality is a bit more boring, but the speculation is fun. Sounds like a victory for uAvionix to me.
Immelman Posted October 18, 2019 Report Posted October 18, 2019 Perhaps the uavionix patent was strong enough and Garmin ended up merely shaking them down? It would be interesting to know.

steingar Posted October 18, 2019 Report Posted October 18, 2019 I'll bet whatever the settlement was, it was decided by someone who knows absolutely nothing about technology.
moontownMooney Posted October 18, 2019 Report Posted October 18, 2019 I couldnt see this going any other way once the uAvionix patent was granted while the lawsuit was underway.Sent from my LM-V405 using Tapatalk

Plus any patents they acquired with Aerovonix, so there was probably a good basis to just settle everything with a cross-licensing agreement.

Yep some sort of cross licensing and In Garmin’s best interest to keep a competitor or two so as to not appear monopolistic
