Any thoughts on the new Insight G3 engine monitor that should be available in 3 months?  The factory is offering to give me an Insight 602 for a $500 deposit and replace once the new monitor is available.  All sensors would be the same, just an instrument switch.

Cost would probably be around $2500 which includes all sensors and no extra charge for primary instrument certification.  I would guess install would be about the same as the JP EDM 800.

I'm trying to decide between this and the EDM 700FF...but I believe we have had that discussion before on many posts.  I know the JP is reliable - looking for some "insight" or expectations on this one.

Thanks,

Looks interesting!  I'm using the EDM-700 with fuel flow and am intrigued at the new -730.  Good to see Insight keeping pace with new developments too.  Some of the stuff on the 2nd page looks silly to me...like they tried to put "extras" in there that don't really serve a purpose but oh well.  Does the $2500 include the fuel flow hardware?  How about fast response probes?

Yes, the second page is a bit much, not necessarily what I need but colorful nonetheless.

Fuel Flow looks to be included.

As for fast probes...does this answer the question?

http://www.insightavionics.com/g3.htm

"The real objective of mixture management is finding a mixture setting which represents the correct position on the EGT/Fuel Flow Curve. As we will see later, this abstract task is easily accomplished by the G3's microprocessor which samples EGT's for all cylinders many times a second and subjects this data to a complex mathematical analysis can identify peak. This capability allows the pilot to operate his or her aircraft engine at the most economical mixture settings."

I learning all about these analyzers as I go...

Yes the JP730 looks good and more expensive. I'm trying to justify the cost of an analyzer in a non-turbo 4 cyl engine! : )

Thanks,

Barry

At $2500 for everything, installed,  including all of the probes, I think that it is hard to beat.  I have the package with the EI UBG-16, FP 5L, and EI voice annunciator and it ended up costing more that the $2500 with all of the probes and installation (4 CHT, 4 EGT, Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, OAT, Carb Temp, etc.) and fuel flow interfaced into my 530W.  The bottom line is that this is all that and more (MP and RPM) minus the voice annunciator.  For $2500 inclusive, I would do it.  Only my opinion though.  If they have a voice annunciator that is compatable, I would suggest it too.  It is nice to have and allows you some workload reduction when flying in IMC.

No need to justify the cost of an analyzer for any airplane engine...once you fly with one and learn what it can tell you, you will consider it money very well spent!  It is required equipment for me.

Their fuzzy language about the EGT/Fuel Flow Curve worries me, though, as well as "complex mathematical analysis."  I want an engine monitor to just show the temps and fuel flows and not try to calculate anything before presenting the data.  Historically the engine monitor companies have not fully understood what the data really means, and thus they've had some errors in their handbooks/instructions.  You might ask for some clarification about what it does in the background!

Those are indeed beautiful...but hard to find a space in a Mooney panel to put one!  I have an EDM-700 and am considering sending it back to get morphed into a 730.

IIRC SCOTT, you plan to go to Oshkosh this year. Speak to Ottis at JPI, tell him you're a friend of mine, and I think you may get an special deal from him.
