For what it's worth, the certified G5 will display course on the HSI and up to two separate bearing pointers with their own specified nav sources. 

So you can't switch between two different GPS sources for the HSI, but you *can* have your GPS course and, say, a bearing pointer to a VOR on the screen at the same time.

And there is a published wiring diagram to be able to select  nav 1 or  nav 2 as a source for CDI presentation.

How much are people paying for their G5s and' installation? I was looking at doing 1 aspen and a g5 as a CDI/backup attitude at my May annual and my avionics guy said $5k for g5 with install. Seemed high to me.

If your interfacing it with a 440 or Garmin GTN/GNS you need the gad29 which is more work to install and $3k for the hardware. If you have an SL30/255 you can bypass the GAD adapter.  I think 7.5-8k is pretty normal for a dual g5 install.

I was going to hook the aspen to my 440 and the g5 to my sl30.

Compare single aspen to dual G5s...

Then decide if having a single supplier, Big G, is OK for you...

The Aspen’s latest version comes with a few extra skills... and perfect for integrating with other suppliers...
