Gerbil Posted August 25, 2017 Report Posted August 25, 2017 When I set out to buy a Mooney soon, I will be searching for one between 69 and 77. Do planes in this range have a 12 volt or 24 volt system? Gerbil Quote
kpaul Posted August 25, 2017 Report Posted August 25, 2017 I think you will be looking at 14v electrical systems in that year range. Quote
Bob_Belville Posted August 25, 2017 Report Posted August 25, 2017 I think this summary implies that the change to 28V came in '86 for the M20K and '87 for the M20J. Not every change is noted however so on the margins one should verify with more primary documentation. http://www.mooneyevents.com/chrono.htm Quote

I went to a MAPA Homecoming back around 1997 with my first Mooney, a 1967 M20C. One of the old timers I met there said, "Oh, you got one of the good ones." I enquired why that was, and he said that the 65-67 models with square windows and updated interior was a nice change to the previous. It was also before the company went into bankruptcy, was sold, and before the pot smoking started in the early 1970's. No kidding. BTW, I love my 64 M20C even better than the '67.. Quote
Skates97 Posted August 26, 2017 Report Posted August 26, 2017 I've been very happy with my 65 M20D (really a C but that seems to bother some when I call it that... ) I think about how well it flies and travels and for my typical trips of 300-500nm I can see myself flying this plane for a long time. 1 Quote
cliffy Posted August 26, 2017 Report Posted August 26, 2017 Just did PGA TUS PGA over the last 2 days 289 kts between in my 64 D/C 9500 down 10.5 back (density 12,5) Smooth as glass most of the way 137 Kts TAS (NOT G/S) Averaged between both flights. I don't really care about G/S until it gets too slow (<110 kts) 10 gallons first hour 9 gallons second hour both ways. Hard to beat C for the economy - Cost of entry/KT cruise speed or Cost of knot at cruise speed. 1 Quote

Guest Posted August 26, 2017 Report Posted August 26, 2017 I liked my 66 E more than my 64 E, and I love my 64-400 more than both of my E models. Clarence Quote

cliffy Posted August 26, 2017 Report Posted August 26, 2017 Not speed but distance 289 between ports :-) :-) Quote

I have my reasons.... I want electric gear and quadrant controls. Thanks for the helpful responses. 14 volt system it is. Gerbil 2 Quote

I really don't care about TAS I like ground speed this is what gets you to your destination. TAS just moves you thorough the air and indicated air speed gets you off the ground and back for landing. 2 Quote

Clarence That's because you have both of their engines strapped up front as one. Since there are only a few of these acid rainmakers, you probably dodged a Lycoming/accounting/legal bullet of a potential crank ad also Quote
cliffy Posted August 30, 2017 Report Posted August 30, 2017 TAS vs GS? I just never seem to get a tailwind:-) 1 Quote
