salty Posted September 14, 2017 Report Posted September 14, 2017 If you're going for efficiency, wouldn't it make sense to dial back the rpm from 2500 as well as or instead of pulling back the throttle? I would have left it WOT and dialed back to 2350 or so probably. Bad idea? (I usually cruise WOT @ 2500) Quote
carusoam Posted September 15, 2017 Report Posted September 15, 2017 Depends on how efficient you really want to be...? Flying around at Vz is pretty efficient... The TopProp people report a cruise setting of 2550rpm is efficient... Going fast without wearing out a set of cylinders is also a step in efficiency... WOT and a few degrees LOP at 12,500' is my idea of speed and efficiency, w/ a side of more glide time... Sure, slowing down the prop leaves more time for the fuel to burn in the power stroke, but at the cost of the 100 less rpm of power... or 400 less power strokes per minute... Just some ideas to ponder... Best regards, -a- Quote
