I love it.  I really like the paint job too. That said, if I ever paint another plane, the belly will be white...  I'm always wanting to clean the white exhaust marks off my red belly. I'd image blue is just the same.    --especially with a plane that shows off your work.

White vehicles attract dark-colored dirt. Black vehicles attract light-colored dirt. Pick you poison . . . . . you can't avoid all of it. I'm not sure that an "exhaust colored" fuselage would look good with avgas-blue wings!

This one seems to need a few things...

Does it have an upgrade plan yet?

Same as 205J or even newer?

Is the rotary ignition switch staying, or are there worthy alternatives?

Looking forward to the pics.

Best regards,

He is installing his G500 TXi. I noticed that rotary ignition switch as well. Round bad. Square good.

 What's wrong with the round?

@Marauder the pics didn’t come through. Is there a mechanical problem or are we just talking aesthetics?

Yeah, I don't what has happened a few times today with picture posting. Just wouldn't post them.

And, oh yeah. Round bad, square good. :)

In the aviation world the price of that ignition switch is a complete bargain and it comes in horizontal or vertical. RMag would be crazy to do a new panel without putting one of these in. :D

Do they have a STC to install only the switch with conventional mags?
Honestly, I think it takes too much valuable panel space for many of us.

Yes, it's STC'd for conventional mags as well.

I was going to do this as part of my panel upgrade and was about to place the order. But I'm glad I checked the size as I just didn't have room in my panel for that Electroair switch. It's just too big.

Nah, I'll pass. Don't need a non-functional switch ("EIS") on the panel. Besides, mine's kind of full . . . .

See the switch in the bottom left? Never understood how so many planes have the ignition above other instruments for the rest of your keyring to bang into and block your vision of. Three keys for the plane (ignition, door and baggage are all different), hangar, old hangar, maintenance. Where else should I keep them?

Actually the EIS switch is your second Mag in an aircraft with two conventional mags. I agree on the space used though. My panel is not what most would call crowded or cluttered, but there still isn't room where the existing ignition switch is for this oversized switch.

What I’m doing is:

1.  Replacing fuel senders with CiES

2.  Replacing G500 and JPI EDM 930 with Garmin G500 TXi w/ EIS.

Keeping the keys :)

Right above the throttle and prop controls looks like some handy space...

Close to the tach...

Push the switch, watch the tach... repeat...

Nicely located for the SIC, in the event....

It just makes operational sense...

Especially if you lose count of the rotary clicks... (I don’t usually observe the rotary switch while doing the run-up, busy with instruments and looking out the windows)

Switches with an un confusable click would go really nice with a touch screen TXi...

How about some electronic ignition to go with that?

Best regards,

-a-

I didn’t type fast enough to get this in before Rmag finished his last post... :)

Do you have this switch installed? Were there any changes in wiring needed or just a direct swap?

Thank you.

I don't but I like the idea of modernizing my 1970's style ignition switch. I would also be interested in hearing if anyone else has experience with it.

Yes, I hear you.

The question really is how would this work with "shower of sparks" on pre-J Mooney. It seems our Bendix switch has one extra function Electroair does not; when you rotate to "start" you need to push in to engage the starter.

Anyone has Electroair swith installed?

Thank you.

Hi all:  Just got the upgrade done.  I test flew it for 2 hours yesterday putting it through its paces and fortunately came out squawk free.

I will be providing some PIREPs in the future after I get some more time flying behind the new setup.  For now I figured I would post some snapshots of the conversion.  Garmin G500 and JPI EDM 930 were replaced with the Garmin G500 TXi and the new integrated Engine Information System (EIS).  Also had CiES Fuel Senders installed for increased accuracy since one negative of the Garmin EIS on the single 10.6" screen is that it does not show remaining fuel based on the fuel flow transducer, but rather what the fuel senders show in the tanks.  So I wanted to have good accurate instrumentation with this setup.  The remaining fuel flow based on the fuel flow transducer data is available, but you have to bring up the Engine page on the MFD screen to see it.  I had Terry Heim @N6758N install the senders for me since he had did it on his plane and @Marauder's plane.  So I figured it would be good to have someone that just did them twice already to do mine!

I will say that the CiES integration with the Garmin EIS was pretty seamless and Garmin's interface for calibrating the senders was superb.  I took video of that so I will upload at a later date.  One nice thing about the Garmin EIS is that every sensor and gauge is setup by the installer, so no need to send it to the OEM to setup for your aircraft.  If you had different senders, you just select what they are in the EIS setup page.  Original OEM resistive senders, you select that.  New Digital senders, you select that, etc.

Here are some photos:
