M20J Rear Seat Pan Question

I started repairing the plastic panels in my J and, upon removal of the rear seat plastic pan, discovered a mess of duct tape covering the top of the spar and the access panels aft of the spar.  Is this something the factory did, or just a bandaid that a previous owner or A&P had used?

Factory...you'll find it all over the cabin once you start removing carpet and panels.

I replaced mine with metal duct tape.

alum. HVAC tape

The regular duct tape can degrade and hold water and such.  Acetone to clean up the sticky mess or goo gone.

Thanks, guys.  I'll try the suggested acetone and alu tape before reinstalling the seat pan.
