bradp Posted January 14, 2020 Report Posted January 14, 2020 Here’s the 77J schematic (I cant recall your year). Radio relay bus shown in yellow. Master / main bus shown in red. My trim is a separate breaker to the left of the autopilot breaker. Clearly shows AP should be on main bus. 1 Quote
Hyett6420 Posted July 19, 2020 Author Report Posted July 19, 2020 Greetings all. Well if Avidyne get their act together with Aeroskill AL “should” be going in on 3/8/2020 (thats the 3rd August 2020 for you people who write the date wrong) To have her long awaited panel tweak done. Do we have an avidyne guy i can kick on here? out will go:- kx155 x 1 KMA24 x 1 KLN 35a x 1 in will go:- Avidyne IFD540 PMA 450B We are taking the opportunity to redo all the intercom wiring, to all seats and radios, so that all of that stuff is brand new and we get rid of strobe clicks, Weird crackles in headsets that come and go depending on....., right hand rear jacks not working, P2 PTT wanting to work only on days with a X in them etc etc. Avidyne will be Vertical RNAV as well as traditional ILS, not full GPSS as we are not swapping out the Swiss watch BK HSI, but near enough. We will be able to set the HSI to GPS mode so that the localiser will track the GPS course and thus the AP if engaged. Our gNC255 will be connected to the GPS WAAS antenna so it will know where it is and be able to give names to frequencies, ie 122.405 will say Elstree Info underneath it which it doesn't at the moment. I cant wait. When I bought the plane the 540 was the one thing i knew she needed and what with the rebuild, then the prop issue, then the market for avionics maturing a tad, it has taken a bit longer than I wanted, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now. Next stage will be gently watching the glass cockpit avionics market to see what happens in that, two years ago i would have said Aspen, but now other products are on the market, and Im in no hurry in this regard, so ill wait a while. Other bit I'm watching is Autopilots, the KFC150 is great and has flown me everywhere, the BK “fix” I really like and will be watching that space closely. Now can someone PLEASE certify electronic film like they have on windscreens of cars so I can put deicing on the wings? Andrew 4 Quote

There are expansion opportunities later with the IFD, e.g., you can connect an engine monitor to it so that it has fuel flow and OAT, and then connect air data (e.g., from a G5 or something) to it, and it will compute and display TAS, DA, estimate fuel at destination, etc., etc. All very handy. Sounds like a very cool upgrade. Post pics when it's done! 1 Quote

Ill be selling iff the old stuff if anyone is interested. 1 Quote
carusoam Posted July 20, 2020 Report Posted July 20, 2020 There are about four Dynon installs going on around here recently posted, if you like the multiple big screens... Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
Hyett6420 Posted August 3, 2020 Author Report Posted August 3, 2020 Well that day has finally arrived. The day when we left Baby in the capable hands of Mastenbroek Aeroskill to have some new radios fitted in. I will of course post photos, and commentary as things go along. Im told it will be a 2 week process, we shall see. Andrew the ubiquitous BEFORE photo the new TV set and audio surround sound system. Quote

The last ones I saw from PilotFun101 seems to come with Netflix & Amazon on LHS & RHS Dynon are approved, but you still have the question for how long? just recently the FAA went hard on some Aspen 1000... Quick question for you. Why are your primary instruments on the left side? Shouldn’t they be on the right over there? 2 Quote

In a J they have always been smack bang in front of the pilot. Its one of the things I REALLY like about Mooneys, another I like is the way that the engine instruments are angled towards the pilot for ease of view. Loved that latter one when i first saw this write up on Mooney way back in 82. That photo is sooo sexy. 1 Quote

Nick Pilotte Posted August 4, 2020 Report Posted August 4, 2020 (edited) Sorry Andrew. It was a silly Yankee joke. The first round of beers is on me if you guys ever come to the Chicagoland to make up for it(though I wouldn’t blame you if you politely decline due to the current violence....). That is a gorgeous Mooney you just added too. Even with the curtains. Edited August 4, 2020 by Nick Pilotte 1 Quote
Ibra Posted August 4, 2020 Report Posted August 4, 2020 (edited) Not sure about left/right debate but I understand G-reg Mooneys also stay on the centerline when they dive on her majesty roads and runways (well except when ATC asks to fly runway headings then they just drift to any side with the xwind ) Edited August 4, 2020 by Ibra Quote

Which i never realised till the other day. 1 Quote

ArtVandelay Posted August 5, 2020 Report Posted August 5, 2020 I would lose the microphone still hanging on the pilot side. 1 Quote
tmo Posted August 5, 2020 Report Posted August 5, 2020 I believe PS Engineering strongly recommend leaving it around and actually wiring it up to the intercom. See their FAQ for reasons. I'd leave it around; I actually use mine when starting up / taxiing around without a headset. 1 Quote
