LANCECASPER Posted October 16, 2016 Report Posted October 16, 2016 If you get an Acclaim and you live in Houston get one with Air Conditioning! Quote
Geoff Posted October 16, 2016 Author Report Posted October 16, 2016 That's a debate with the wife right now. It feels backwards but I want air and she wants FIKI. Can't do both with our mission loads. Quote
carusoam Posted October 16, 2016 Report Posted October 16, 2016 The ice box style AC is a nice temporary solution. The FIKI anti-ice system Mostly resides in the tail in place of some chunks of lead (Charlie weights) that would be there otherwise. Just a reminder to check in with your sales engineer when going through the WnB purchase decision process. Best regards, -a- Quote
Geoff Posted October 16, 2016 Author Report Posted October 16, 2016 Good to know! So the weight penalty for FIKI is partially offset by the removal of Charlie weights. Does anyone know the net weight gain offhand? Quote
carusoam Posted October 16, 2016 Report Posted October 16, 2016 Geoff, you might Borrow some details from the very similar O... Best regards, -a- Quote
LANCECASPER Posted October 16, 2016 Report Posted October 16, 2016 If there's any place on the planet where you need A/C it's Houston TX 1 Quote

I don't know how much the Charlie weights weigh, but the TKS system with full fluid onboard weighs about 100lbs. 40 of that is the equipment and the rest is the fluid. Quote
carusoam Posted October 16, 2016 Report Posted October 16, 2016 The weights range from about 6 to 20 pounds. There are three different sizes and can be stacked. The actual number of weights is listed in the WnB section of your plane's POH. Section 6. Page 106 of 181.... Unfortunately, my electronic copy of a standard POH doesn't have any actual number of weights installed. Best regards, -a- Quote

cnoe Posted October 17, 2016 Report Posted October 17, 2016 If there's any place on the planet where you need A/C it's Houston TX I use the ice-box version which is fairly adequate for getting to altitude here (in Houston). The unit weighs 14 pounds + however much ice you load. 10# works for departure but if saving ice for arrival 20# is better. My biggest problem is needing more baggage "volume" which might not be a problem in the long body. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 1 Quote
gsengle Posted October 17, 2016 Report Posted October 17, 2016 Remember you can fly with the TKS tanks low, and gain back 50lbs useful or so... (W&B assumes full tank just like engine oil)Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

Joe, Losing access to my corporate turbine ride (got fed up and quit), and while the 206 is a great family plane, I need something faster and FIKI for meetings, so I'm back to looking at Mooney after looking at TN G36s (the climb rate is anemic at 4000lb, in a very, very scary way). The Turbo 206 is a climber even at 3800b, but with a 39ft wingspan, that's not surprising. So now I'm thinking Acclaim. Two questions: -is the 310hp upgrade still available? Who holds the STC now? Did they ever resolve the RPM redline issue on G1000? -is the TKS fluid included in the W&B on your bird? The low useful load scares me on a few birds I semi looked at, but it would be a different story if 60lb was already included. Quote
gsengle Posted October 30, 2016 Report Posted October 30, 2016 TKS fluid is included on my Mooney, gain 50lbs or so back when tank kept low in summer...Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote

I think the 310hp upgrade is still available but I don't know who holds the STC. It has changed hands a couple times since I did mine. Contact Mooney; I think they know. It is absolutely a worthwhile upgrade. The redline on the G1000 gets properly adjusted. I always keep about 5 gallons of TKS onboard and it is included in my W&B. If you need to haul more stuff in the Acclaim then you simply haul less fuel. I typically launch with 60-70 gallons onboard which still gives me plenty of range at 15gph fuel burn. I only top off when I'm going 700NM or more. Quote

Mooney owns the STC. there was a discussion recently as to the weight of the TKS fluid. On pilots bird did have his WB listed without the fluid, where the Majority of owners proved the WB included fluid. Whichever bird you are considering, check closely the POH. Quote

Best regards, -a- Well no that's not correct...the plastic 6 gal tank resides in the belly between aft spar. Both pumps and filter and filler is there too.Only part in tail is tubes to Three titanium panels on tail .So most of weight is over the wing 1 Quote
carusoam Posted November 3, 2016 Report Posted November 3, 2016 I must be jealous, I'm keeping my eyes closed, too tightly.... I Like the AC and FIKI idea. Got any hardware pictures? Best regards, -a- Quote
