Wondering if anyone has read any articles on this topic. My dad wears hearing aids (in his 70s and the 25 military career pretty well ruined his hearing). He does okay wearing the Bose X or A20s, but with the hearing aids in they do cause some slight distortion. He also tried it with and without the hearing aids. Without it's not as distorted, but he misses some of the coms. He is far from deaf and can hear without the aids, but they do help a lot. Has anyone read any articles on what headsets work well with hearing aids. My folks don't fly with us very often, but if there are any headsets or combinations that work better with hearing aids I would like to hear them (no pun intended). I'm thinking next time we will let him try a set of non ANR and have him try it with non-ANR and while using the hearing aids, might be the electronics in the ANR is interfering with the electronics in the aids. Any thoughts?

I flew with a friend a couple of weeks ago and had a similar experience.  He owns and flies his M20C routinely.  He has a pair of ANRs that i didn't recognize, but has trouble with them turned on.  The pair I was using seems to be ok once I set the volumes.  I couldn't help but wonder if the ANR was reacting to his hearing aids.  We played around a little trying to get them to work, he finally turned them off and was happy.  I would try non-ANR with your dad or have him take out hearing aids and turn up the volume?

Not sure which audio panel you are using.

That said, if you are using the newer Bose, they are not factory set to receive 3-D audio from the newer Garmin 350C audio panel.

You must remove the battery and manually change switch located under battery to receive 3D audio. Totally different sound.

This audio panel also eliminates missed calls. When a call is missed you simply push the play button and the recorded call is replayed to you again.

This would eliminate or greatly reduce any missed com issues he might have and changing to 3D audio may help with the distortion issue.

Also, you might consider a conversation with Bose tech support.

Right now PS6000. Making some panel changes within the next few months to the Garmin remote audio..Good idea to see what Bose tech suggests though. I really think it may just be the electronics inside the headset not playing well with the electronics in the earpiece of the hearing aids.

As you get older you start loosing high pitch hearing sensitivity. This could be compensated by having a tone (bass/treble) control like in the old radios but in the headset or audio panel instead. I am surprised that the new audio panels or headsets do not have a tone control. Since many of their users have lost high pitch sensitivity.

I've never tried a traditional headset with my hearing aids, but I would expect problems, because of the way these things work (feedback and noise cancelling sounds like a no-win). I just remove mine and insert the Halos. The guy who makes Halos (Dr. Phil McCandless, Mooney owner) is an audiologist, and could probably explain exactly what's going on. I would contact him for the expert opinion. http://www.quiettechnologies.com

Go halos, then work on the bass/treble adjustment.  CB solution with no technical background to support my claim. Phil is great for these kind of questions...

I know Phil and thought he might chime in with his thoughts...must be keeping up with those orders :) I may send him a PM and see what his thoughts are. Not sure how dad would do with Halos. I have a set in the hanger that I use on hot summer Tennessee days. I might have him give it a try next time.

Tom also consider getting some new ear bits for the halo.  For a few cents, the Dad can select from varies diameters and materials.

I like the silicone ones...

I met Phil at Sun N Fun. His production woes are due to finding qualified people to build them for him. Part of the challenge he has is his location. Probably not a lot of people well versed in building devices such as his product.

Time to take production to China.

His son was helping with production, but he is now at college (with multiple academic and music scholarships, IIRC).  Proud father now very busy...
