Had a fueler go a little overboard on a top off request at Independence Kansas...

See enclosed picture.

What are suggested ways to clean avgas and oil stains from wing walk?

This same fueler tried to charge me for 3 extra gallons of fuel.  My brother and I had to lean on him to see his error.  We were lucky that the confrontation with this city FBO employee was in front of an inspector from weights and measures that happened to be doing an inspection......

The whole thing seemed so shady.....be cautious at IDP if not using self service.........

I cleaned and painted the wing walk on my J several years ago. There was a special spray cleaner and paint that I used...can't remember the name of it but I'll check it out at the hangar tomorrow and let you know. The results turned out really well.

Here you go. I can't remember where I bought them but I'm sure you can just Google it and find some sources. You use the cleaner to get as much of the oil and grime off as possible, then use the spray touchup to give it that fresh, new wing-walk smell!

Good luck.

Try the soap and water method first. If necessary, wing walk paint at spruce is very easy to apply. The wing walk is probably the easiest thing to fix on the plane.

My wingwalk had the same stains along with dried paste wax and who knows what else. I used soap & water and a soft bristle scrub bush, once clean and dry I sprayed WD40 and wiped it off really good with a cloth, took less than an hour and looks good. The WD also darkens the wingwalk paint which tends to get chalky after time.

I ran into this problem with the J that I owned before my O, I elected to paint over the old wing walk with a wing walk material that I ordered from Aircraft Spruce. It was a painless process that took a couple of hours to do and looked very good. Just let me know I will find the name of it for you...

For a complete restoration a quart of compound will do at least 2 planes. My A&P had me use a small roller instead of a brush and to be sure to keep the material stirred up as the grit sinks pretty quickly.

No need to strip old just clean surface, mask edges, roll on. Easy project. Pics are before and after.

Cool thread! Nice easy project for this summer that I am unlikely to screw up. The grit has worn smooth on mine in places, so I'll probably go with Bob's solution above

Now if only there was a way  to get the wing walk off my flap - I'm guessing this is not so easy and requires stripping and repainting the whole flap.  I don't know why someone felt the need to put it there - it's just an invitation for passengers to step on my flap.  Last week a fellow C model owner inadvertently stepped on it because he wasn't used to seeing it there on his plane.

my flap has "no step" written on it.  You may want to find a way to put that on the wing walk paint.  I'd hate for you to jimmy up your flap.

I tell newbies that they won't hurt the flap but it will give way if they step on it and they might hurt themselves when their foot slips off the trailing edge.

Yeah I always tell them when boarding but they forget by the time they get out.  My flap does have "no step" on it in small black letters.  I might need it in large red letters on the wing walk itself.

My paint shop painted the wing walk on the flap and then went under before they would warranty it.  Ended up painting "No Step", but as others indicate it is not fool proof.  I remind people going in or out and even then I've had them step on it. Bob's approach helps, tell them it will give way and they will fall.  When I get a repeat offender near the plane, I put the flap in takeoff position.  This seems to be the best approach, have had no offenders this way.

I added "no step" to my flap, and do far as I can tell, no one has. For what it is worth, ArtCraft paints their non skid in the same color as the wing.
