randy9101 Posted March 8, 2016 Report Posted March 8, 2016 I thought My M20k was getting hard to start and had tried everything from hot start procedures to the proposition of flooding the engine.. I just completed the annual and after replacing massive spark plugs the mechanic asked if I was having engine start issues. He checked it several times and found that after push start, turning the key slightly counter clockwise or to the left, the engine would easily start. The implication is the ignition switch is worn and the ignition circuit was not hot during the push sequence. Is there a specific ignition switch part number for the M20k or would a generic aircraft spruce left right push to start work? Thanks in advance for your replies. Quote
1524J Posted March 8, 2016 Report Posted March 8, 2016 I just ordered a new ignition switch from spruce along with the matching baggage and door locks. Haven't had a chance to get them installed yet but can't imagine that the generic wouldn't work. Of course, I could be wrong.......... By the way, I decided to replace mine after reading that if you could pull out the key when switched to the mags it was time to replace the switch. Quote
kortopates Posted March 9, 2016 Report Posted March 9, 2016 Yes, there is a Bendix part no specified in your M20K IPC. It is available from Spruce. But cheaper than getting a new switch is to get a switch rebuild kit - which I don't think Spruce stocks but available from many sources. The kit replaces all the internal contacts in the switch and will resolve any electrical issue. It's easy to do too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Rustler Posted March 9, 2016 Report Posted March 9, 2016 I've replaced the Bendix ignition switches on two Mooneys with the ACS switch. Both worked fine and solved the precise problems you described in your original post. I don't know about your plane, but I had to make sure I got the switch with the START position included. As mentioned, you also can get the Bendix switched overhauled, but I thought I'd start new. Quote
Brandontwalker Posted March 9, 2016 Report Posted March 9, 2016 See what part you need. I ordered a rebuild kit on some bad advice. I was going to hold on to it, but can part with it and save you some money if it's a match. Mine is the Bendix with start position. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
