Flew up to in laws cottages for first visit in 2016.  Traffic was departing on 13 and we had two regional jets lined up waiting for a couple of likely Rockwell small (Lear type) jets on final.  First a regional jet landed and then I am looking north and two landing lights are on top of each other.  First jet lands (US Government) on side and on short final the second jet broke off to west did a tight turn and landed on its heels.  Likely testing some wiz bang gadgetry.  Cool to watch.

We had our 8 year old pointer in baggage and our 7 month old pointer in a collapse able kennel in back seat.  Uneventful flight skirting a restricted area at Ft. McCoy at 7500.  Ground speed only 140 knots burning 10GPH 10LOP.

Minnepolis flight following asked if I had notems.  I fly up to D25 a lot and f-Ed up and didn't check 'em.  He had my back.  Paved runway was closed today for painting.  Prepared to land on grass.  Unicom talking to a departing plane and inquired about runway status.  "O.K. To land 14, but taxiway closed.  (Still painting) another guy missed that and we watched him enter taxiway and get balled out :)

Young dog was jumping off dock chasing water splashes....

I LOVE GA.  I LOVE my Mooney....I LOVE my bird dogs :)

Fly safe.

Our local chapter of COPA(not Cirrus) flew 250 first timer kids today.  Only one was ill and all had a great time!

My wife and I did a speed run down to Spruce Creek and back Friday and Saturday AM.  For one of the first times I didn't have stronger headwinds over the same flight path as I had a tailwind.  Pretty nice to have a plane like a Mooney to fly from just south of the Canadian border to Florida in just over 5 hours, and return the next day in around 6 hours.  We could have never worked that schedule out with the airlines in that time frame and still accomplished what we did Friday afternoon and evening.

I only got a couple pictures on the way back.  One being over Kentucky / Tennessee, and the other looking down at the east side of South Bend and the south end of Lake Michigan from FL200.  As hot as it was everywhere over these two days, we didn't need A/C in the flight levels.

Well just got bill for the annual and another ridiculously expensive one but at least its done in a timely manner will be leaving work early to take out for test flight with mechanic.  Other than a couple of things I really cant see how it got so expensive this time, I guess its time to do some shopping around, Lets hope for a non event test flight.

You and me both. My wife had to give me CPR after I saw my bill. The labor hours are ridiculously high.

Go mooneys for sure. I flew from Wilm. to Longview Tx last week, came home commercial next day. I was molested by Tsa,( story for another day). Door to door it took my Mooney only 45 minutes longer than the Delta airlines fiasco. It was so uncomfortable in the crj , I had a large man next to me felt like I was in a can. I really hate flying comm. This topic could make me rant for hours.

AARGH  well test flight and gear warning horn inop they made an adjustment to the throttle and went up again and still no joy. Also noted CHT was higher in climb than before but it is 90 degrees out. Coming in for landing tired from work stressed about the annual made a terrible landing they pulled it back inside asked if I wanted to work on it told them I just needed to go home. Now we shall see if they want to charge me for the work to correct. All I know it worked on the pre test flight. This sucks.

I had one other neat picture on the trip back out of Spruce Creek.  It didn't turn out like the others because the rising sun was creating a glare off the rear window.  But it's a nice view of the Daytona Speedway, the Daytona Airport, and Daytona beach.

So this morning, I left out at 6:30 to meet another Mooney down in 79J (Andalusia) for us to take a friend, Army veteran, down to meet his family in Panama City Beach (KECP). Beautiful ride down, and when I was over Montgomery, AL, I looked down and saw the Hyundai factory. So if you ever wonder where your Hyundai may have been "born", there is a possibility it came from here.

Todays' flight actually began on Tuesday. I had planned a business trip from Alabama up to Reading, PA. A technician was flying down from Montreal to help with a trial at a customer. After reviewing the weather Tuesday morning, I canceled my Southwest flight (left at 9am). But as I drank my coffee and watched the news, I began to take a closer look at the weather. Strong storms were forecasted about midway through the route. I decided to delay departure and watch what develops. The weather got pretty nasty and I scrubbed my mission. That was the 1st time I had ever second guessed a go-no decision.

So everyone at work thought I was in PA. But the weather to the south looked phenomenal. So the wife and I departed for Gulf Shores. Beautiful flight down and the same on the return today! On departure I noticed another Mooney on the ramp - tail number ended in 65X.

With the longest flight I've ever done being from Massachusetts to New Jersey, I decided to try something a little different.  I had business in Orlando and Kansas so...

Sat. 6/11 - Flew to NJ from MA to see Dad for the day.

Sun. 6/12 - Set off for Orlando Executive (KORL), stopping at Lumberton, NC (KLBT) for fuel and break.

Had business/meetings in our Orlando/Maitland office for that week. Office was 15 minutes from airport and Sheltair brought rental car (left running w/ AC on) right to plane and loaded for me. :)

Sat. 6/18 - Visited Sister near Orlando

Sun. 6/19 - Set off for Johnson County Executive (KOJC), stopping at Hamilton, Alabama (KHAB) for fuel and break.

Had business/meetings in Overland Park, KS most of this week.

Thurs. 6/23 - Set off for home - Beverly, MA (KBVY), stopping at Muncie, Indiana (KMIE) which was an alternate as I wouldn't be able to make it to my planned middle of Ohio due to weather.  Grabbed lunch, fuel, and updated weather.  Final push, up high with great tailwinds and nonstop to home.

All that flying is nothing to a lot of you but a big deal for me going from a large hiatus to this enjoyment so quickly.  Just for reference: (and for my own amusement)

Total flying time from 9/3/93 to 6/6/99:  83 hours (C150/C172)

Total Mooney time: 85.3 (started 8/28/15)

Total solo Mooney time: 79.3

Really, really, really glad I made the choice to return to flying and not keep saying "someday I'll get back to it".

Only thing that would have made this trip better was if it wasn't work at each destination.

And, lessons learned:  Get IFR rating and bring Oxygen just in case.

Today's trip was to Longview Tx.  I spent a lot of time at 8000 feet mixed in the top of the clouds. It was fun to see the oil wells and the NASA Balloon port (near KPSN).

San Marcos, TX to Panama City, FL this weekend. The little C easily went both directions non-stop with plenty of fuel reserves. IFR on Friday going East and VFR on Sunday coming home. 7.6 gph... only in a C.
