Here too.  Supposed to be in the sixties by Xmas.

It will be 84 Christmas Day here in Northeast Florida. That just ain't right!! May just have to climb in my Mooney and head north until it feels right.

You probably will need to go to somewhere in Canada. It is supposed to be 74° in Delaware.

My hangar is a he bargain, you couldn't buy storage space on that scale for that much money anywhere.

I once totaled up everything I'd spent on my airplane and flying one year.  I prompt vowed never to do so again.

I don't ever total up what I spend.  If I did, my wife might not let me fly...........

We've been getting steady rain the past few days and more in the immediate future. I'm so glad Snoopy is in a nice clean and dry hangar right now. Also very thankful for the much needed rain.

It's the best feeling when crap weather rolls in... knowing that the plane is tucked away in a dry hangar!

Not quite.  I'm at $680/mo. right now, which will go to $700 on Jan 1, 2016.  I get a power door, electricity, and insulation, and although it's complete protection, I cringe a slight bit when I write the check every month.

I can't believe I'm going to say this but... I'll bet mine is smaller than yours though.

It's not the size of the hangar, but what what goes inside that matters.

And hopefully, that doesn't matter either.

On 12/17 (post #43) I mentioned I pay $265 a month for a hangar in Northeast Florida. Yesterday 12/24 I received a letter from the FBO (Sky Harbour) letting me know the rent is going up to $300 starting in January. Their timing is impeccable! It is just what I wanted for Christmas! If it was a nice hangar I probably would just accept it and move on, but these are small 50 year old hangars that they have done nothing to maintain. We have another GA airport in town (Herlong) that is actually closer to where I live, but it is uncontrolled and has no onsite maintenance shops. They have hangars for $300 that are much nicer than those at Craig (KCRG) where I'm based. I'm strongly considering relocating, but not having a maintenance shop to fix the occasional problems is a big minus. I went by yesterday to talk to them and to look at a hangar. Quite a few planes on the field and cheap gas $3.30, but strange that there is no maintenance shops.

Look at your maintenance history and see how many times you have needed maintenance that you could not have flown over to the old field to get done. This doesn't prove that you won't have to have maintenance at you own hangar, but it will show you what the odds are.

I'd be willing to bet that your local maintenance shops are aware of the new airport and are willing to provide services at the new field as soon as enough demand is present.

I used to fly to the Jacksonville area quite often when my daughter lived there.  I've flown into both CRG and HEG....as a transient pilot I far prefer HEG.  HEG is uncontrolled, has less traffic and is easy-in/easy-out, CRG has a tower.  The people at HEG are wonderful, the people at CRG always seem to have their hand in your pocket.

These are just observations of a transient pilot, a "resident" may not agree.

Herlong is right next to Whitehouse, a Navy field.  It was never in operation when I was arriving/departing (weekends), but you gotta be a little careful if the tower there is operating.  The guys at the FBO can give you the skinny.

Thanks. Agree Herlong seems like a nice place. I wished I knew someone based there so I could get more info. The hangars are so much nicer than at Craig for the same cost. The controlled/uncontrolled thing is not that important but KCRG does offer more choices for approaches (ILS and GPS to several runways vs a GPS to only one runway at Herlong). Again not that big of a deal since I could always land at KCRG if I ever needed to.

there is an onsite maintenance facility at my airport, but I don't use them.  I actually have a mechanic who isn't based there do my maintenance.

My T hangar is $370 with an office which is a bit high for this location but the airport is really nice.

Insurance is cheaper and I would think it helps keep bugs out of the tubes and holes.

I think it's so important that when one became available I jumped on it this month even though I won't have the plane till February.

Oh ya, I spent an hour de-icing the rental plane the other day only to find out it had a gear horn failure.  No ice in a hangar other than for your drinks.

Keep in mind it is still a good idea to check for bugs and expect that they can be there.  I pulled a couple of mud daubers off the O this year doing a walk-around in my hangar...

I still sump for moisture as well.

Best regards,

I put cowl plugs and pitot cover on in the hangar.

With all the wires and tubes, I feel like my plane is on life support. I have 5 plugs (cowl, cabin vents and tail), pitot and AOA sensor covers, battery minder and engine dehydrator.
