I just bought an m20 E 1965. I love the plane but hate the old metal throttle handle. it is very uncomfortable. Doe anyone make a grip you can put over the throttle for better comfort (I have a tenancy to death grip the throttle during landing phase)

I had an M20F for 19 years. I liked the feel of that throttle. I would rest my hand on the knob and use my finger tips on the friction ring to move it in and out. I could move it very precisely. Unlike that stupid lever on my current J!

Yeah I really hated that corroded grey aluminum conical thing, assuming that's what you have.    Tried to take it off but was basically impossible to do- then Iwound up replacing the whole cable when removed for a panel upgrade-  a  good idea if you have a 50 yr old cable anyway.  I had bought a replacement knob that has the same threads - assuming you can get yours off - if I can find it in the hangar I'll drop it in the mail to you.

I just replaced the throttle cable, mixture cable, and, a couple of months ago, the prop cable. All were over 20 years old and badly worn.

(I think all modern throttle cables will have a black knob instead of the OEM  aluminum.) Your cable probably needs replacing anyway. I used McFarlane and I am very pleased.

Supposedly this knob is threaded the same as the old grip:

I bought one but couldn't get my knob off so eventually replaced whole cable.

Free to a good home...

I bought this one. Fits perfect and looks good

All of my cables are original. It has never occurred to me to replace them as they are still smooth, precise and deliberate.  Perhaps it's time. I must say that I like the conical vernier throttle on my F.

There is no reason to death grip the throttle or anything else. With the exception of the flair, a mooney can be flown with fingertips.

I took the aluminum knob off my E model, mounted it on a bolt of the same thread then mounted in my lathe so I could spin it to restore its original shine.

I think you're both recommending the same thing...dirty old men!
