JaredDavis Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 Hi, Anyone have a good source for a grease fitting? 6-40 UNF-2A STRAIGHT SAE Number is H-640. Alemite is 3018. It has a tiny #6-40 thread post. It broke when pulling the grease gun off. Thanks! Quote
carusoam Posted November 5, 2015 Report Posted November 5, 2015 I looked in aircraft spruce. But, was unable... http://www.aircraftspruce.com/search/search.php?cache=ff5b32881f40e1a705080a3d7ce029df&filter=&pageno=1 best regards, -a- Quote
N601RX Posted November 6, 2015 Report Posted November 6, 2015 Be sure it is really threads. Depending on where it goes some of the fittings are threaded, others are a press fit and have ridges like a hose barb which may look like thread at 1st glance. Quote
Yetti Posted November 6, 2015 Report Posted November 6, 2015 http://www.grainger.com/category/grease-fitting-kits/fittings/lubrication/ecatalog/N-9in I have a grease fitting kit... I believe Stewart and Warner but it would be a couple of weeks to get to it. Also try Mcmaster carr. Where did the fitting go that broke? Quote
JaredDavis Posted November 6, 2015 Author Report Posted November 6, 2015 (edited) This is an odd grease fitting. This product doesn't have a spot for the 6-40 thread check. http://www.grainger.com/product/WESTWARD-Grease-Fitting-Thread-Tester-13X066?s_pp=false&picUrl=//static.grainger.com/rp/s/is/image/Grainger/13X066_AS01?$smthumb$ It is in the wing assembly on the IPC. The main gear connects to the block. IPC shows it as "3018 Zerk, Grease Fitting, NI" Also listed as "3018 Fitting, Grease, NI" I found it here: https://www.motionindustries.com/productDetail.jsp?sku=01291718 McMaster has them as well - thanks! http://www.mcmaster.com/#1095k86/=zopxop Edited November 6, 2015 by JaredDavis Quote
carusoam Posted November 6, 2015 Report Posted November 6, 2015 (edited) The mcmaster one shows an interesting note about not having a check ball. Check your details closely... i could not get details on the Motion Industries one. Local internet problem on my end... I am not a mechanic, just a PP. Guest Posted November 6, 2015 Report Posted November 6, 2015 The Allemite 3018 is a pressed in grease fitting. It is very common to find them broken when the grease gun grip is too tight the stem will break. The broken stems are not easy to removed. Buy yourself a needle type fitting to grease through the now broken stem. Clarence Quote
JaredDavis Posted November 6, 2015 Author Report Posted November 6, 2015 Clarence, We were able to back out the broken threads using a back out bit. Luckily it was well lubricated<g> and came out easily the first try. I felt like buying a lottery ticket. I was anticipating a long profanity laced extraction period. It looks like a 6-40 screw thread to me. a, Thanks for checking that. The old one has no ball either. Regards, Jared 1 Quote
