scottfromiowa Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 I'm looking at ultimately replacing the old six pack Garwin gauges and wondering if anyone has updated with the dual EI fuel guages? What was your experience? How are they working? How difficult was installation? The new Gem G3 is going to start shipping and should be under 2AMU's with "upgrade". This will give me certified primary cylinder and exhaust temps vs my Gem 602 bye bye to those two in six pack. Oil Temp and Pressure so long to those...for under 1AMU Already have EI voltmeter. So in my mind for about 3AMU's plus install I can remove Garwin Cluster, right? The EI fuel gauges (without swing) combined with EI fuel flow should be a vast improvement and the two EI gauges should fit in the vacant area where old six pack was in panel. I just can't pull the trigger on the multi-function units at 5AMU's...even though I love the idea of greatly minimizing panel space (right side). I am inquiring with Insight on the integration for the non-primary info on the G3. I don't understand how the other existing gauges info will be integrated/shown on the G3. While NOT primary this will be a nice to have item. pro's/con's to this? Thanks for any and all input. Brian got me going on this with his post...Thank's Brian! (although my wife probably thinks otherwise ...me spending again. Quote

scottfromiowa Posted September 16, 2010 Author Report Posted September 16, 2010 Nice Brian. I love you guys that say "I'm selling my plane"...then BAM! I be updating. I'm glad you are keeping your E and that will be a significant "we're staying together FOREVER commitment. Quote
flight2000 Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 Yea, we're wishy-washy like that... Tried to convince the finance manger a bigger aircraft now would save in the long run. She looked at the kids and said there was no way we'd need a bigger plane and it would just be us when they leave. She likes the coziness of the E, so there you have it. She did approve the A/P though and I have a plane (Mooney at that), so I'm still blessed. Besides, you've seen my skinny bunch and we both know she's right.... Brian Quote
scottfromiowa Posted September 16, 2010 Author Report Posted September 16, 2010 I love your E. Your wife is indeed wise...and she likes the ND paint for pete's sake. Hope to meet your family again down the road. I flew with my wife and two "young adults" (17 & 19) collectively about 300lbs. With 30 gallons of fuel we had about 50 pounds for bags...plane flew great on a high temp day. Your "E" will be fine for at least another decade...and then they start going to school and "family" means three or two...Now THAT is right in the "E" wheelhouse. Be safe, Scott Quote
GXPD Posted September 16, 2010 Report Posted September 16, 2010 Scott If you're installing the FL-2 the EI website says that it is not STCd for certified aircraft. Probably a whole lot better/safer than the Garwin's but you wouldn't want a burro-cat having sleepless nights over your well being would you? Quote
