I used to only buy new cars. I liked the warrenty and the fact that I was the only one wearing it out. That said, I just bought a used porsche. It had only 3000 miles and the CPO warranty was better that the new car warranty. And of course it was 30% below sticker.

Airplanes are different. 1. My wife feels safer because we bought it new. 2. I feel safer knowing it from build to Today. I'm pretty much the only one who has flown it (except MSC during annuals). It still looks and feels new after 8 years. Not a single squwak. That's just me.,,

You're going to need that CPO ;-)

And you, Sir, are not a certified CB. :)

New is nice. There is no doubt about that. I say if you can afford it and want minimal bother with maintenance and upkeep, then by all means go for it.

Jim

Jim, I'm kinda new here. What's CB? Thx!

6 years, 100,000 miles. I can live with that!

Not to worry....somebody obviously doesn't know Porsche maintenance history. Yes, even Cheap Ba$tards drive great sports cars.  :P

At one per month, you have time to build a strong tax strategy...

Let us know what the expected delivery date will be, and if the new G1000 is all WAAS or not.

Acclaim or O?

4 blade composite or TopProp?

IO550 G or N?

Go Ryan, livin' the dream!

Best regards,

I am actually seriously looking into a new one, in fact I'll be calling Mooney on Monday to discuss it. What are the tax breaks again? The iRS 179? Is that the only one?

I wish they still made the Bravo. Nothing currently being made has a lycoming under the cowling which is a shame IMO. Perhaps they will expand the product line if all goes well.

For much less than a new Mooney will cost you, you can get this Lear

Pay for all the fuel and really impress the girls. Not to mention that it has room for eight and a toilet. And get the red carpet treatment at every FBO. Try that with a Mooney!

No longer legal to fly in US due to noise restrictions. Plus they are fuel critical from engine start on ;-) Plus the 12 year is due. That can easily run what a new Acclaim costs. Note the gross weight vs take off weight, that thing can burn 80 gallons just starting and taxing. Now, for $700,000 that a new Acclaim costs, there is a lot of useful Citations to be had if you have the operating budget of about $250K a year or so for 150 hours.

Ryan. Unfortunately our gov't ,the treasury dept., has made large tax effective purchases very difficult to plan for, the last few years with accelerated depreciation, bonus deep., section 179e write off we could basically have the gov't pay 25-40%? Of our aircraft I expect it will be extended again but from a planning point notice I used the word if, so you take the risk by purchasing the aircraft and hope all the write offs are available or wait until late December and see if they were extended.. I guess one could flip a coin..good luck and figure the purchase with and without tax help, btw it assumes it is used for business..Good luck..

Concerning new vs. used:

Lets see:

My M20R is used

My house is used

My F-150 and Toyota are used

My wife was previously married before we met.

What can I say, I guess I am just a used kind of guy, or as George Forman once said when asked about his aberrant youth,

"If you don't know, you don't know".  Just never knew new.

Best,

DH

Yeah, me too, Dave. Two current used cars and one used truck, four previous used cars, about to move from used condo to used house; very used airplane, bought a used calculator in college (paid a month's rent for an HP), and I'm her second husband (she came with two used dogs).

I've done alright on houses: bought two used (2nd and 4th) and two from the builders (1st and 3rd); preparing to move into (used) 5th home and rent out the (used) condo we've been living in while looking.

Now I'm feeling used . . . . Used up! It's been a long week, put in 30 hours at work, house hunted over the weekend, made an offer last night, finalized everything today and hit the bank on the way home to provide copies of the contract, survey, county tax assessor's information, etc. I's tired and need a tall, cold adult beverage . . .

But as long as your plane is a Mooney and you've got (or can get) the money, new or used seems to make little difference.
