Houman Posted April 18, 2015 Report Posted April 18, 2015 Looking to replace the punny straps in the cargo, since I'm redoing the interior and have removed the carpet, seats and sidewalls. On my 79 K, the cargo attach points are 4 somewhat strangly placed bolts (not really on the corners as one would have thought ) they have very thin and useless straps attached to them via 2 big washers ( The staps have a ring at one ends and the washers, and the bolt hols the ring and washers to the floor at the attach points, see picture.. I was thinking of something more stronger and useful tie downs, such an adjustable ratchet tiedown strap, but after a visit to couple of hardware stores, all they have on stock are with a hock at the end, so not sure how that will be workable, any one has any suggestions ? One thought was to find a way to instal a standing ring style fixture that pertrudes from the carpet and then being able to use a normal ratchet tiedown hocking to the rings on the floor, but not sure if that would be very functional to have things pertude from the floor specially since the tie downs are not exacly on corners and the luggage might be placed directly on top of it. Just wondering and hoping the collective knowledge here can give me suggestions. Thanks ! Quote
Piloto Posted April 18, 2015 Report Posted April 18, 2015 I have never used the cargo straps neither the coat hanger hook. I just removed them. The coat hanger hook is useless (too close to the floor) and luggage is prone to tangle on it when pulling it out. José 1 Quote

Hank Posted April 19, 2015 Report Posted April 19, 2015 I have th same cheesy, worthless straps, never used. Have used the coat hooks, hanging clothes go in last and drape forward over the back seat. It's better than nothing. . . . Quote
Houman Posted April 24, 2015 Author Report Posted April 24, 2015 Here is what I ended up doing, got a 4 link chain and put it between 2 washers and just used the same bolts as it was on the floor, so it is now very usuable and not in the way. Here is a picture... Quote
Guest Posted April 24, 2015 Report Posted April 24, 2015 Why not cut the black hook off, then take a 3/16" diameter ice pick or awl heated red hot and peirce a hole through both layers of the loop in the end of the strap. Then using the screw and washer fasten the strap down. Clarence Quote

What I like about my setup is that it is totally removable, flexible, adjustable and pretty sturdy. Quote
