N9405V Posted March 31, 2015 Report Posted March 31, 2015 So today I was flying and the cylinder head temperature barley got off the peg. Air temp was I the 70's. This is my cowl opening (yes the plugs were gone...). Is this ok? Usually the temp is a little bit more, and cowl flaps were closed. Thanks! Quote
carusoam Posted March 31, 2015 Report Posted March 31, 2015 Find where the thermocouple has escaped, and put it back... It can't get too far away, it is connected at the other end. Best regards, -a- 2 Quote
MyNameIsNobody Posted March 31, 2015 Report Posted March 31, 2015 A four probe cylinder temp and exhaust gas monitor is NOT optional in the 21st century. If you are flying a Mooney...Get one. Like yesterday. I bought a used insight GEM years ago for $200 bucks with probes... Quote
Ned Gravel Posted March 31, 2015 Report Posted March 31, 2015 However, I note while flying around 8000' lately, in areas where ground temps were well below zero ©, I was not even getting 300 deg on any of my CHTs. 22 others Posted March 31, 2015 Report Posted March 31, 2015 <------ would be highly interested in one of those $200 engine monitors. Maybe I need richer friends. Quote

There is a reason rich people are rich...in my experiences with rich people...It is not from "giving stuff away". Deals are out there. Quote
Scopes Posted April 1, 2015 Report Posted April 1, 2015 My experience is same as Ned's, with typical temp's hovering around 300 (max 330 in the summer, 290's in cold weather) using EI UBG monitor. ('64 E). Quote
