N1026F Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 The offer of the sale for the 430W is withdrawn. I don't like the available options for the money. The 650 is not enough bang for the buck for an upgrade backup. I'll have a 750/430 combo for a while. But the prices on these units are unreal. I let the loaded 530W go for $7500.00, fair market value 6 months ago--I just saw the prices today--WOW. When I get tired of the two different card types, I'll reconsider selling the 430W. (probably after the prices cool if my stock trading skills hold true.) It's not really punishment to fly... (turn sound down) IMG_0258.MOV 1 Quote
Tony Armour Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 Bargain, I missed the price :-) I'll pass it along to a buddy that needs to upgrade from his non W 430. Quote
carusoam Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 Daniel's instrument panel pic is nicer than the Mooney in last month's AOPA... You know, the Garmin add features a Mooney where the Garmin panels are in full flight. But, the fuzzy shots of analog back-up instruments in the background are still on the ground. Daniel's are installed in a real plane... Best regards, , -a- Quote
Bob - S50 Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 Seems like the easiest way to upgrade the 430w would be to buy the Avidyne. No installation cost. Then sell the 430w before nobody wants them. Quote
rbridges Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 I have a 430W, and I may be speaking out of ignorance, but I'm not really wanting to change it out. I agree about the $$ to step up to the GTN series. I would love to have one, but I can't justify the cost for little practical gain. Quote

I agree but, if installing new installation, I would install a new 650 vs used 430 especially with used 430 prices at such a high level. 1 Quote

ryoder Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 I can get my engine overhauled for less than the cost of a GTN650 installed. Quote
ArtVandelay Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 I can get my engine overhauled for less than the cost of a GTN650 installed. Really? Where can you have an overhauled done for less than $12000? Quote
ryoder Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 I need another Garmin 106 indicator to go with the install and I was quoted 11k installed for a used 430 non WAAS at Sarasots Avionics so I am assuming the 9K 650 plus 1k for another indicator will put me in the 14k region easy. Jewell Aviation charges 750 to install their overhaul which is right around 10K. http://www.jewellaviation.com/overhauls.htm Add for carb and mags. This is the engine, oil pump, fuel pump etc. Quote
ArtVandelay Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 Sarasota did my 650 for about $11900, so with extra indicator, call it $13K. I was replacing a non WAAS 430, so my install may have been cheaper than a complete virgin install. Jewels prices are almost half of others, like G&N, JB, Zepher....I would need to some PIREPs Quote
ryoder Posted March 21, 2015 Report Posted March 21, 2015 There are a couple of pireps on here for Jewell. These engines are so much simpler than what I have in my Corvette so it shouldn't cost zillions of dollars to overhaul one imho. 2 Quote
