I’m not trying to be rude or insulting, but what do you want? I think you made your point but by continuing to say the same thing, you’re losing your audience. What’s your end game here on Mooneyspace?

I think that people should know what my experience was with Don Maxwell Aviation.    I hope what happened to me doesn't happen to them.  Maybe, people will think oh if he would have done this, or done that, it wouldn't have happened.  But I think people should know what happened and how I was treated.  So they can make a informed decision.  That's all.

Ok, and again not trying to be rude or insulting, but your point has been made and is clear.
Thanks

You have got to be kidding! That’s nearly as bad as the guy telling him to, “take personal responsibility” for a problem that was NOT his making.

The attitude around here when any criticism is directed to a shop is astounding! Yeah, Maxwell has done many people favors and has a great history. Doesn’t mean mistakes aren’t made. Also doesn’t mean those mistakes should be ignored. It certainly doesn’t seem Don handled this very well. Sure, there’s two sides to every incident but the willingness to blame the customer is absurd.

Speak for yourself. For how badly that shop hacked up the guy’s panel, he’s earned the right to vent as much as he wants to.

Twenty posts starting at page 5 of this thread isn’t enough for you? Ok, continue to vent away.

He’s made his point clear as mud. He has an issue with a shop. Did this shop harm your aircraft? If not, why are you so angry about something that didn’t affect you? None of this is going to fix his panel nor do I have a solution for him to make him happy. Do you have that solution other than venting?

Why do you care so much? Just move along and read another thread.

May I ask you the same question? Why are you so angered over someone else’s issue?

Speaking for myself, I’m angry at the lack of support and outright animus expressed towards the OP merely for daring to report an issue with a vendor!

Ok. That’s your view, although I don’t agree with it but respect it.
So how about this, instead of yours and others anger, why don’t we channel that into a solution? How about we start a collection to help Jimmyred get a new panel cut?

I’ll put $50 to Jummyred getting a new panel cut out. Since it’s a recent panel, getting a new one shouldn’t be too expensive. Any others willing to work towards a solution for Jimmyred?

I'm seeing a shop that was asked to repair or replace a cable and did that.   In order to do it the tech had to clearance a non-stock panel.   This is not really that far out of the ordinary.    Whether there was a communication issue is being told only by one side, and many of us have had enough personal experience with Don and his shop to know that what is described would be fairly atypical.   That doesn't mean there wasn't a mistake or failure at the shop, but I think it does mean that this particular horse is a bit over-flogged, imho.

This I do know:  donuts (and several boxes of them, and don't forget to add the apple fritters) work really well for the FBO line guys and those Little Caesars hot-n-ready $6.00 pizzas work great in the shop working on your airplane.  These two small, relatively inexpensive gestures go a long way toward keeping everyone on the same wavelength.  We're all human and we all make mistakes, all the time.  Anyone not willing to admit this or agree with this won't be getting donuts or pizzas from me anytime soon.

I have always gotten donuts at each shop I have had my plane worked on :-)

And at Don and Paul's shop, you get Maxwell House coffee in the little blue K-Cups.

Unless it's your horse.

When I had my custom panel done, I had the shop replicate the dimensions of the factory panel exactly including the rolled edge under the left side and higher straight lower edge above the power controls. This isn’t my panel, but mine (and the original) look like this. I don’t know if the larger vernier throttle knob would fit under the original panel design without modification but there does appear to be more space.

It was earlier mentioned about adding matched recess for the other controls and then screening it. That’s a good idea. Another, less elegant, would be to cut a thin overlay that goes across all three. Pick up the existing hardware to hold it and maybe some 3m double sided tape. Recess the throttle as required. Have it painted a nice contrasting paint, and silkscreen or laser engrave. You can have them outline the edges.  Local trophy shop can do it for next to nothing. It could look quite nice and intentional. Before the advent of quick CNC cut panels we had to do this kind of stuff a lot when doing avionics mods. Many of the factory overlays were done to hide tooling holes or hardware. I know it’s not the question here but perhaps it helps resolve the issue.

I believe that that is where my panel goes.  The mounting screws appear to be at the same place.  I will have to look at what the mounting screws are mounted to to see if they can be moved up.  I am working on obtaining a fuel selector right now.  I really appreciate the suggestion.  Thank you.

I definitely will be looking at all options.  Thank you.
