Alhall Posted December 25, 2014 Report Posted December 25, 2014 What happen to the topic on SB217 can't find it on the forum now? Quote
Hank Posted December 25, 2014 Report Posted December 25, 2014 What's it cover? I googled it and found psychology and several state legislatures before it went into Chinese and Cyrillic, nothing aviation at all. Quote
Alhall Posted December 25, 2014 Author Report Posted December 25, 2014 Rear spar center splice inspection for cracking in the area of the hydraulic actuator hinge. Quote
Hank Posted December 25, 2014 Report Posted December 25, 2014 You mean this one: http://mooneyspace.com/topic/9406-aftrear-wing-spar-splice-and-rib-cracks-1966-m20c/?hl=%2Bspar+%2Bsplice Use the Search box; I used "spar splice," several others came up, too. Quote
Alhall Posted December 25, 2014 Author Report Posted December 25, 2014 No that's not it. I don't see it in the search. Must have been deleted. It had couple thousand reviews and lots of post. Some I had posted. Quote
Sabremech Posted December 25, 2014 Report Posted December 25, 2014 I had posted in that topic too. It actually prodded me to go look at mine since I had the area accessed and found mine with a crack. The kit was $157 and I ordered it from Wilmar. Haven't installed it as of yet. David Quote
JaredDavis Posted December 26, 2014 Report Posted December 26, 2014 I believe it was accidentally deleted.  All threads I started are gone due to a mix up on spam cleanup. Win some, ...  It was interesting to see the post actually helped others find an issue earlier than normal.  Regards  Jared Quote
Sabremech Posted December 26, 2014 Report Posted December 26, 2014 Here's the crack on mine with 7600 hours total time on the aircraft. I had to loosen the bracket to see it as it hasn't made it's way out from under it yet. I'll start installing the S/B kit after the holidays. Thanks Jared, as your post made me take a much closer look at mine. I couldn't see a crack until I loosened the flap bracket and even then it was difficult to tell until I took this photo. David Have they ever been able to determine the root cause for this? Will extending the flaps beyond VFe cause this? Quote
Sabremech Posted December 26, 2014 Report Posted December 26, 2014 Hi Marauder, I think it's that as well as normal use. It's not very beefed up and I can see where the S/B will be the final fix. I don't anticipate seeing this as a trouble area again. David Quote
Alhall Posted December 26, 2014 Author Report Posted December 26, 2014 Thought I would repost a few of the pic of my repair. Quote
rbridges Posted December 27, 2014 Report Posted December 27, 2014 Would you do the repair even if no crack is visible? Is it one of those things that is inevitable? Quote
Mooneymite Posted December 27, 2014 Report Posted December 27, 2014 Would you do the repair even if no crack is visible? Is it one of those things that is inevitable? Â I suspect that it is a design fault with the way the flap actuator is attached. Â Later C models (the ones with electric flaps, do not brace against the aft spar in the same manner. Â Probably the less the flaps are stressed, the longer the spar stays whole. Â So.....Maybe you don't want to use flaps for takeoff! Â Â Â Quote
Sabremech Posted December 27, 2014 Report Posted December 27, 2014 Complying with the service bulletin does away with the 500 hour repetitive inspection. Quote
BigTex Posted December 28, 2014 Report Posted December 28, 2014  So.....Maybe you don't want to use flaps for takeoff!    Why is it that some folks just like to give that big pot a good swirl and then get out of the way and see what happens! Quote
