Oh...you got me

Although we did have 2 people, 2 suitcases and 2 carryon's stuffed to the gills, a tool bag, flight bag, misc. other crap, food and drinks and 105 gallons of fuel - and were still under gross. The airplane flew and performed quite well.

There is a case for both NA and Turbocharged airplanes.

I'm waiting for the two of you to start comparing prop lengths. Remember boys it's not the length that counts. Girth matters as well :)

Now that's funny right there! ^^^

I'm happy to see 180 knots ground speed with my 180 hp, all for only 9 gph. Just call me Tuna Can . . .

To you! As you prove every time you post your girlfriend's photo.

Leave my BIG squeeze out of this! What did she do to you? Crack the asphalt in front of your hangar? ;)

Hey, if you want to take your harem out of town you'll need a mooney, Saratoga, and a C-5A!

Thanks again everyone.  After reviewing everyone's input it looks like driving in the winter will be the best way to go.  Will still most likely go turbo if I can find the right plane.

Good call on the turbo... but use it! If you resolved to drive all winter, you'd be missing some of the clearest, smoothest, sunniest air ever. Just stay below, (or quickly on top of thin) potentially icy clouds, and aim south!

You guys are all pretenders to the throne.  :D

Here's one at .86 M and 552 knots across the ground...

That's not quite as good as I've seen, I once had nearly 150 knots right on the tail, the ground speed was hovering right around 600 knots and went over 610 for a short time in the descent.

This is one of my favorite photos though...

FL470.jpg

FL470, .78M, 482 knots across the ground.

Oh well, enough of that. Turbocharging simply buys you options that you wouldn't otherwise have. Having more options is always a good thing.

Wow, 1184 knots with 5° nose up! What was the level speed?

I must say, though, I'm slower than all of these, but I only burn nine (9) gallons per hour, sometimes less. :-)

I'll  jump in too.  211 kts ground speed at 10.7 gph, FL210.   I fly conservative, so fuel flow would be less if I was LOP.   The beauty of the turbo is that you can often pick an altitude where winds are favorable.post-9008-0-44934400-1412392525_thumb.jp  This was  Austin Tx to Tampa Fl non-stop.  --I love my Mooney

Just an observation that you may want to look. Go to Flightaware.com and search for turbo Mooneys (M20T) or turbo Cirrus (SR22) and try to find how many are flying above 12,000ft. You may find  one or two. The overwhelming majority are below 10,000ft. No doubt that turbo has its advantages but I do not see turbo owners taking advantage of it.

One will be mine... I'm almost always in the mid to high teens!
