Bob_Belville Posted September 25, 2014 Report Posted September 25, 2014 I also dropped XM and will never go back, partly for price and partly for the extremely poor customer service. I was only able to drop XM when my credit card expired, after 2 months of trying to cancel the service! Sure, ADS-B weather is blocky and doesn't have the same amount of information as XM. I have been told that is a bandwidth issue, not funding or design. And I love the price! My anecdotal observation would be different. I dropped XM weather. and kept radio, when I got the GDL88. The XM lady adjusted the billing and issued the credit with a smile on her face. Quote
carusoam Posted September 25, 2014 Report Posted September 25, 2014 Dave, I think we are seeing an interesting situation. For strategic weather data.... 1) Highly budgeted customers appreciate two separate sources of data. 2) budget minded customers appreciate what ADSB has to offer. 3) mid level financial freedom people are going single source, XM panel mounted solution. Orange and red mean the same level of caution, whether the graphics are blocky or nicely defined graphics... Much of the financial discussion hinges on the number of HD color screens that are mounted in the panel already. Best regards, -a- Quote
Cruiser Posted September 25, 2014 Report Posted September 25, 2014 Andy, You may be right in a general sense however I will add one more path for consideration. 1. I don't know what to get for ADS-B OUT at this point in time. 2. I looked at some IN/OUT options both certified and non-certified and the entry costs were beyond $2 AMUs 3. I think there will be more choices available in the next couple of years. Price TBD. As a result, I decided to buy a used XM receiver for $20 and got a one year subscription to XM weather. About ¼ the price of anything above. So far, I am pleased. Quote
