RocketAviator Posted March 31, 2014 Report Posted March 31, 2014 New update on the progress from the RC scale model Mooney 201 topic. After more delays and challenges than I am sure you want to hear about there has been some progress on the Scale Model of Mooney Rocket N1016U. The kit did not come with near as many features as I would have liked such as steerable nose gear, flaps and serviceable access bays etc. Not to mention the issue with 3 sets of wings splitting... that I had to order each time from Europe!! Also for some stupid reason I decided to take this opportunity to move into the 2.4ghz radios with telemetry which have a huge (at least for me) learning curve!! Anyway enough of my whining and on with the update. The Scale Rocket has progressed fairly well albeit extraordinarily slow to include a complete rework including the necessary design, modifications and installation of a larger engine (after all it is a Rocket), fully functionable retractable gear, working navigation - taxi & landing lighting, scale graphic details, 3 blade prop and hopefully soon a polished aluminum spinner! I hope... I need to complete the build this week as I am committed to bring the model to the Mooney Homecoming the following week... and the Mooney Ambassadors AOPA event in San Marcus the following week. we will see, it is going to be tight! By the way the one image is from my ol Bucket of Bolts Rocket in flight this weekend where I had a great time and great flying experience at the Yuma AZ Formation Flight Clinic, those guys do a fantastic job.... Well done Chuck, Dave, Kris, Larry, Bret and several others who went well beyond over and above! Here are a few images of the progress so far! Enjoy, 1
Hank Posted March 31, 2014 Report Posted March 31, 2014 Looking good! Can't wait to see in-flight pictures of 16U-Jr. 1
RocketAviator Posted April 2, 2014 Author Report Posted April 2, 2014 Lacee, are you bringing it to Oshkosh? Yves If I have enough room I will. Hope to see you in the Caravan!!
RocketAviator Posted April 7, 2014 Author Report Posted April 7, 2014 The builds is complete... On N1016UJR Now on to the finish and graphics. Notice true to Rocket form the two LED landing & taxi lights since it is night now! Gave up on the wing tip lights for now, maybe later. Did get the wing tip though and of course a bigger motor, 3 blade prop and full functioning retractable gear. One thing for sure I shan't do this again! Way too much work! I have two days to finish it before time to leave.... My chances of finishing in time are slim to none! 2
Hank Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 I think folks at Homecoming will be positively impressed whether it's finished and painted or not. It will still be an impressive display model, with the lights running of course. The cowling and turtledeck are impressive! 1

DaV8or Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 Wow! That panel is impressive! With the cylinder sticking out, it looks a little like a Mite! Two words for you... DON'T CRASH! 1
RocketAviator Posted April 10, 2014 Author Report Posted April 10, 2014 Far from done but it's as done as it's going to be by wheels up in the morning for Mooney Homecoming! Much left to be done, antennas, retract wheel doors & a lot more.. I can't say it's been fun way to big a hurry. But building a scale model of one of my planes has long been on my bucket list! Here are a couple images of my Rocket & Mini-me Rocket JR!

RocketAviator Posted April 10, 2014 Author Report Posted April 10, 2014 Dang, but that looks good!! Thank you and thanks for your continued interest
RocketAviator Posted April 10, 2014 Author Report Posted April 10, 2014 You bet I did not spend all that time & $ not to at least try and fly it! Yes as soon as it is complete
carusoam Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 RocketA has some skills! Best regards, -a-
Steve65E-NC Posted April 12, 2014 Report Posted April 12, 2014 The wing plan looks like a Piper instead of a Mooney. Have you thought about building another wing? Looks like the wing attaches easily.
