raising and lowering the step

Hey guys,

 

In my 62 C I have a heck of a time raising and lowering the step by the crank on the wall. Is there any lubrication points or anything that can help here? Most times it takes two hands to raise and lower it.

There are several pullies, etc that can use lubrication.  You may also want to check the condition of the cable.  If it is frayed, it tends to bind.

Where the step tube slides up and down through the bracket in the back it gets dirty and hard to slide. Clean it good and lube with a silicone lube that dries.

I spray silicone on my step every couple of months.  If not it gets pretty stiff.

Don't forget to remove the interior panels and lube the cable going to and from the crank. They are similar to lawnmower throttle cables.   Once I lubricated mine it worked like a dream.  I used LPS2 on them.

Mine became so stiff this past winter that the cable jumped off the crank pulley. I took the pilot's side panel off, put the cable back on, tensioned the cable and lubed everything. It works great now, easy to turn.

Try Triflow. Its the stuff you lube rod ends with. It dries but leaves Teflon behind.

+1, removed interior panel and lubed the cable. Now works real smooth. I had left in the up position for several months because it felt like the cable was going to break.

That's what I use for my vacuum powered step. Anything thicker traps dirt and causes the step to bind.

While you have the panel off you might want to check for any leaks around your fuel sender.

since installing new cable at annual, my manual step won't stay in the fully retracted position.  It slips down about 10%.  What is the solution for this?
