Just had the Lasar 3" foot pedals installed in my 67E. I am5'8" and I always found that I have to crank the seat right up to the limits to get effective purchase on the pedals on the two Mooneys I have owned. My first flight with the extensions was interesting as they now give me considerable breathing room from the yoke actually giving me a better angle of vision over the glare shield which is definitely a bonus. The extensions however create an altered angle for breaking and steering action which takes a little getting use to. Otherwise, so far I am pleased  Since I had them installed I now feel less cramped up on to the panel. It actually gives me the sensation I am in a sports car where my arms to the yoke are more extended.


After just one flight my initial reaction is that it was very much worth doing  for someone of my stature. For those of you who have installed extensions I would be most interested in your experience of them

how much do they cost? Im 5'6" and im all the way to the first notch and it gets rather annoying litting in such a small place. I even think lasar is based out near me so i'd definitely like this if the price is right

I bought a set from Parker when he had them removed from his plane (Thanks Parker!!).


I, like you, had my seat so far forward that I was concerned that the yoke mounted plate/chart holder I used was going to cut me in half on a hard landing or worse. I'm 5'5" so, more so than someone 6'5", I had some difficulty "fitting into a Mooney".


With the 3" rudder pedal extenstions I can push my seat back to the 2nd from the most forward setting, see the instrument strip under the glareshield and not feel like I'm going to eat the panel. For the more "vertically challenged" I think they are a requirment. If you're short, get them - you won't be disapointed!

At 5'5 I think I may fit into the Mooney vertically challenged category.  I have flown my bird for a few years without any pedal extensions and although I am used to the airplane, I still feel as if the Mooney is a pretty snug fit.  Probably because I sit a little closer to the yokes than in any other plane that I have had.  Last one was a Commander, which is known for its carlike interior.


For those that have installed the extensions, does the kit include new pedals or is the kit simply a bracket that puts the existing pedals more aft?  I have looked at the drawing posted by Amelia, but I can't figure out what is included in the STC.


Reading what others have posted, I think I will try the wooden block sizing trick and most likely lean toward the 3" extensions.

I installed the 3" extensions on my 20E two months ago. I started experimenting with wooden blocks booth 1 1/2 inch and 3 inch. I am 5" 8" and I opted for the 3 inch extensions. In regard to the pedals; no it does not come with new pedals. The brackets simply screw into the old pedals.


I n respect to how it works, initially I found the pedals to be awkward as the angle formed with the extensions changed so that a different angle was created. For breaking this took about 8-10 landings  and departures to get use to. I now feel totally comfortable with them. I now am not pressed up against the yoke and this makes reading the large screen much easier to incorporate in my scan.

Thanks.  I wouldn't mind having a look at the install if you are ever in Calgary or should I get a chance to fly out to the island.  Seems like you're happy with the results and they're worth the price.

Hi Steve again


I took a gander at your photo gallery and there are many comparables regarding our 20 E airplanes. I got the impression you have a 66 20E is that correct? Mine is a 67E also with a 3 blade and a 201 window. It looks like you have a Garmin 430 installed and some updated engine monitor. Couldn't quite make out from the photo exactly what it was. My airplane has the Johnson bar  which I believe yours does not. Do you have an auto pilot?


I recently installed wing root fairings a JPI 830 and visors. My plane is in very good condition overall. If it wasn't I would be trading up to a 201. I would like to do a SWTA 201  full cowling and spinner but this may be down the road if at all.


Thanks for sharing the pics in the gallery. I am quite impressed with the paint job!

Thanks.  It is a 66e Hartzell top prop and the 201 window.  Have the electric gear and hydraulic flaps. 


Also has numerous speed mods (dorsal, wing tail root fairings, cowl, tips etc.) but I don't have the flap gap seals or the single belly mod.  I have the brake reversal STC which will be done this winter.  For radios I have a complete garmin 347, 430, SL40, 327 as well as a KR87 ADF.  Autopilot is a STEC 30 ALT with GPSS.  I fly with a AV80rAce, ZaonXRX, and XMWx.  Engine monitor is a complete MVP-50p and I have removed the 6 pack guage set.  Lots of other goodies on the plane including strobes, klaxon SBs, HID lights, Nulites, Air/Oil sep, GAMI, Skytec, Guardian CO, Card compass and Rosen visor.


Icing on the cake is new paint (Ovation Scheme), windows, plastic, interior upholstery and carpets.


Excluding a 600hr engine and the 2700hr airframe it is basically a 2007 M20e.


Love the airplane.

Well Steve I know of no other 20E that is so well equipped. I thought mine was somewhat unique but yours is a step above. I also have the Garmin 327 but no 430. Having difficulty rationalizing the expense. I have Skytec as well and also Lasar ignition.My engine has 560 hours so similar in that regard. I also have the PMS 8000B Audio panel with MP3. No strobes. Do you find the Gami's of any value? Thanks again for sharing

I don't fly LOP so other than the engine running smooth and EGT temps very close together I really can't comment on the benefit of the GAMIs.  When I run the GAMI analysis on the engine logs from the EI, I get next to zero fuel flow spread. The 430 is nice as it is linked to the AP and the EI.  I don't have WAAS but don't really need it as I am not IFR rated.


Like the look of your seats and upholstery.  Looks very comfortable.

Yes, I have owned several Mooney's in the past and my seats are extraordinarily comfortable. Far and away the best I have had. It makes long trips quite pleasurable. I am IFR but I don't have an auto pilot for that. When I had the stec 50 in my 7620F it made a huge difference in flying IFR.


Time to go flyin! off to Victoria.

The pedal extensions make things much more comfortable for me (5'8").  It took 2 afternoons to make them.  I stuck them in for a few minutes to see how they fit and felt before painting, and was very pleased extra space between me and the yoke.

I cut them out on a milling machine with a digital readout.  That makes it easy to go from the dimensions on the prints to a finished part. These took a little longer than expected, but if I ever needed more I'm sure the second set would go faster.
