mooniac15u Posted February 4, 2015 Report Posted February 4, 2015 A Google search on N201EF turned up this document. http://airflightdisaster.com/index.php/flying-tigers-inspection-fraud-scheme/ Quote
gsxrpilot Posted February 4, 2015 Report Posted February 4, 2015 I'm not in the market but just curious. If this J with all it's fraudulent inspections and suspicious history, spent a couple of weeks with Don at KGGG and came away with his stamp of approval and a fresh annual, IFR, pitot static, etc. be a good plane to own and fly? Or must it be relegated to the scrap heap and parted out? Of course those two weeks with Don might cost another 10AMU, and that would need to be factored into the purchase price. But just wondering. ArtVandelay Posted February 4, 2015 Report Posted February 4, 2015 There is too many nice airplanes out there at good prices to take a chance IMHO Quote
Cruiser Posted February 4, 2015 Report Posted February 4, 2015 There are some really great deals out there for someone that is willing to buy a damaged airplane. Many pilots refuse to even consider these even at a reduced price.(to reflect the damage history stigma) The trick is to understand the damage and repair work. Some of these "damage history" planes are in better shape than the "no damage" ones. I think it is much easier to evaluate the effect of damage ( if it is known) because you focus on the issue and determine the condition. Just search this forum for PPI and read the horror stories of buyers that bought a "no damage history" plane. Not saying it is a good thing, just that you know what to look for. Remember though, the "damage history" carries a stigma and you should expect to get less for it at selling time, valid or not,.......... sigh. Quote
jetdriven Posted February 4, 2015 Report Posted February 4, 2015 The log books were forged from 2000 to 2006. Which really means missing logs and there is a value deduction for that. How are are you the engine is really freshly overhauled, it its done right? Quote
ryoder Posted February 5, 2015 Report Posted February 5, 2015 You will come to make peace with yourself or drive yourself nuts trying to justify it... Think of it as owning a boat, just without the water... What rational people would; 1) spend ten of thousands of dollars for something that is 30+ years old and looks it 2) pay hundreds of dollars every month to keep it in a open T hangar that has ice for weeks outside the door in the winter or bees nests in the summer 3) be happy that the noise we heard in flight is only going to cost us $200 or that 4) we feel great that we paid $100 (times 11) for a chunk of rubber that costs $2.98 to make? Sent using Tapatalk Ok Marauder you are speaking my language. Sometimes I wonder why I own an airplane with all of the costs involved. Sure it's fun and I enjoy it. But I bet I would enjoy joining a tennis league too. Sorry if that's too depressing. I really like the airplane thing but my realistic side kicks in sometimes. 1 Quote
