Open cowl flaps on approach to dump more heat coming in.

thanks for posting very useful information.

glad to see you will be getting you plane back together soon. Unfortunate the circumstances as they are.

How close is he to New Orleans? Sonny (Auric Avionics) at KNEW does good work. He installed my 540.

I have the NCS 812 but I also have the CDI that has the DME displayed in a window at the bottom of the dial so I don't use the DME display on the radio itself. If you need a new display search there is a thread on MS with a source and part numbers. The display is easy to change.

just keep S&W or Glock handy if you are alive and they come by hungry then you get to eat.

I assume you mean the eclipse ride a little pricey for my blood and all you get is a little window.
-
Eclipse party my place Can be just like a hurricane party without the wind and rain.
-
Hey I'm already in Idaho Falls on the edge of totality I was thinking about flying it just to have a different perspective, a slightly longer eclipse time and can fly in the center of the eclipse. It will add seconds maybe a minute or two to the eclipse. I know the shadow travels pretty fast but a Mooney is faster. There is a group that chases eclipses in a jet at about FL30 they can extend the eclipse for minutes.

2 larger doors definitely a good thing for entry and exit. Two extra inches wider in the cabin would be a big plus. Increased gross weight very desirable. I'm not an aeronautical engineer so there is a good possibility I do not know what I am talking about and I'm sure I do not have any revolutionary or earth shattering observations here. Keep the wing spar we currently have and the same basic air foil design. Lengthen the chord of the wing by 8" at the root and 6" at the wing tips (dynamic lift thinking camp). This would give you more surface area for greater loading (maybe 3600 or 3700lbs) and should allow you to keep the stall speed in a manageable area. Put a 300HP TN LYC or Cont out front and fuel for a solid 6 hours of flying (W/O reserve or 4.5 to 5.5 hours with reserve depending on personal minimums) at 10,000. The M22 already utilized an oleo strut design. Could you design an oleo strut to fit in the current wheel wells of the Mooney? Maybe move the pivot point outboard 6" for the added extension of the strut when not compressed by the weight of the plane. Take the current M20 deign with 2 doors shorten it back to the J length lighten it up wherever you can and put the LYC IO360, 200HP, TN engine out front for those of us who are happy with a basic complex 4 seat single. Oh and utilize the 3D printing techniques, combined factory resources of the different airplane manufactures as mentioned in another thread to reduce the manufacturing costs. Just thinking out loud.

OK good luck they keep talking about the huge number of people expected to be in Idaho for the eclipse. I was halfway thinking about flying the eclipse. it would be an interesting flight.
-
Where in Idaho are you going? If Idaho Falls Let's meet up I've been spending a lot of time there lately. PM me when you will be there.

Do you think there's an STC for one of these on an M20?
1964-M20E replied to smccray's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
OK so we skip the mini gun and put an M2 .50 cal in each wing that will work for me. -
I don't know but I am planning the same thing in about 2 months My limited research found CANPASS which is supposed to be an easier way to get through customs. There is CWRY Milk River which you can stop at as a point of entry from what I understand with CANPASS. It appears that Lethbridge CYQL with CANPAS is also a POE Also Spingbank CYBW http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/canpass/privateair-eng.html Also I would be possibly be looking to spend the night in Calgary. Anyone with more information would be helpful.

Well regardless of whether you want a sports car or not (I like the Blade it is really cool IMHO) I like the manufacturing technology is geared to low production just like airplanes. I would love to utilize the processes to build a new generation of Mooney aircraft and other small planes that are quick and efficient and lower cost. Like I said before the small plane manufactures Mooney, Beech, Cessna, Cirrus Piper etc. need to get together and setup a factory like this to do most of the manufacturing for them landing gear parts, spars, air frame sub assemblies etc. that way they all can benefit from economies of scale, computer optimization and factory automation and then final Assembly at their respective facilities. They can manufacture more planes at lower costs and generate more new plane sales. I know the number of pilots is decreasing but you can't tell me that if the costs of a new plane were half of what they are today you are not going to sell more planes.

Hey that is what it is for. Looking to make a trip to Canada while I'm there just to say I did it. Still need to work out all the logistics. Still need to hit several more N. Western states while I'm here.

Avidyne Jeppesen Subscription
1964-M20E replied to markejackson02's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
yes their site leaves a lot to be desired. Your best bet is to call them. I did when I needed to upgrade my subscription to the while US vs the eastern half. -
A fellow pilot and I were having this discussion yesterday bout medical vs aviation O2 and the H2O content. I would suspect for a fixed system that is outside the cabin without heat could be susceptible to the H2O condensing out and freezing especially at a 1st stage regulator and at high flows. With a portable system in the cabin and at any reasonable temp that the occupants think is comfortable I would say that it is not an issue. JMHO

I think you can get it in different colors as well.

Rexburg, ID KRXE Pancake Breakfast Fly-in 6/17
1964-M20E replied to Skates97's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
Yes truly amazing this was not the first time I happened upon a fellow MS member while out and about. When you see that correctly shaped tail and the retractable gear (well most Mooney) you are just attracted to the plane and have to go tale with them. Great talking with other MS pilots. -
Who says Mooneys don't have stretching room
1964-M20E replied to Mark89114's topic in General Mooney Talk
Mooney it is our own Tardis more room on the inside that it appears, ability to time travel bring you to far away new and interesting worlds to boldly go where you haven't gone before. -
FLIGHT REVIEW, WHAT DO YOU DO?
1964-M20E replied to MyNameIsNobody's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
You teach him or he teaches you no matter how you slice it you do get something out of it. You learn you aircraft better and you get your FR done and are good for the next 2 years and it is about your flying skills and knowledge not necessarily the plane you are flying. Regardless everyone proceeds in their own way to achieve the goal to continue flying. Finally, I don't mind training the trainer because if I'm telling him how it's done and I'm correct then I have learned that subject far better than if the instructor told me this is how it is. IMHO -
You should have seen her after a couple of drinks. No just kidding she is very nice.

We have the honor (notice I spelled honor correctly ) system at my home airport as well with a padlock to keep the really dishonest folks away. It is a private airport so we rarely have outsiders flying in unless invited and no cameras and only members have a key.
