The North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88) is the vertical control datum of orthometric height established for vertical control surveying in the United States of America based upon the General Adjustment of the North American Datum of 1988. To the best of my knowledge this is the theoretical MSL at least for the USA. Yes this is an average construct of a mean seal level. Living in south Louisiana roads and front yards can disappear under water in a matter of hours when the wind and tides work together MSL doesn't mean much but seal level does. Maybe we should start referring to altitude as NAVD instead of MSL.

  3. My dog house on my former E was cracking and already had many repairs. I had a complete dog house made and I only sent the shop a letter asking them to make the baffles for me as owner produced parts. In fact he even sent me a letter to reference when writing my own. They knew what to do and the baffles that came back were very well made. I think he has a PMA on them now.

  5. You Guys are just too eager for this event. If I had a large fortune I could make a small fortune in aviation with planes like this.
  6. I think the small wheels on our aircraft stop spinning quick enough but I do ti because that was the way I was taught. Not to mention you do not have bakes on the nose wheel so if they are spinning and you tap the brakes the nose will continue to spool down. If I do not tap the brakes before retracting the gear I don't worry about it.
  7. Well while we are picking I'd love to have one and will just as soon as Ican find where I put that extra 750AMUs. I hid it so it would be safe. However, I want mine with Aspen instruments and an Avidyne 550 instead of the G1000 stuff.
  8. Yes you could have made some better decisions by your own admission. We have all done that in the past sometimes with more forgiving results. The end of the day you safely landed the plane without injuries to you or anyone else except maybe your pride. So for that well done and kudos for having the courage to share. I guess the silver lining was you were already at the field with your mechanic.
  9. FYI my extra data plate in the rear is on the inspection cover on the tail.\ comes off at every annual and then back on.
  10. My 67F has 2 data plates one over the door and one under the tail. Obviously someone before me added the second data plate under the tail. It is a simple piece of aluminum that was engraved with hand engraving tool nothing fancy but it has the required data.
  11. yeah but one hell of a flight and at 10GPH that is 10TBO's for most of our engines and if we fly 100 hours a year that is 203 years of flying. Heck we could have started flying with the Wright Brothers and still not be half way through the fuel. Or You could fly continuously 24/7 for 2.3 years. Better have the relief tube installed.

  13. I like to bring a solution to the mechanic when needed not a problem. This is what is wrong. This is what we need to do to fix it. I already have the part and the cowling is already off.
  14. Must be something about #3 I had the same issue earlier this year flying to Orlando. Mine had come off completely but I guess the vacuum of the engine kept it in place until I pulled the power for landing. With the engine monitor I knew exactly what cylinder was causing the problem didn't know what it was and when you are flying an approach with the engine making weird sounds lot's of things star flying though you head besides flying the plane. It was a conscious effort to fly the plane and try not to think about the engine coming completely apart because you don't really know what is happening up there.
  15. Well I've only heard this but supposedly the PMA wheel bearings we use and pay more for come off the same assembly line. The bearings that pass the tighter tolerance requirement go in the PMA box. It might just the same for electronics. I know if I were Garmin I would not have 2 lines running to produce the same device. Also aren't there some software features are not turned on for the G5 versus the G5X?

  17. For years I flew out of KNEW Lakefront airport in New Orleans 36L or 36R engine out you are going swimming unless you are high enough to make the turn for me min 800 feet +. I generally keep a PFD in my plane at all times unless I'm exclusively flying over desert. Also don't forget to turn into the wind in that situation it will keep you closer to the runway. I guess I would rather have water in front of me than trees or rough terrain.
  18. I agree with sell it as a kit call it the MX10 with retract and do some test with 200HP or greater on it. You can always get it certified in the future meanwhile you get some revenue steam coming in and you can streamline the manufacture of the parts.
  19. I'm not an IA but I think on larger aircraft and some smaller ones they do phased inspections. However, I'm not sure how that would for a personal aircraft without a full time mechanic / IA. It might lead to some confusion especially when selling or buying.

  21. This will not help with being close to the panel but you can remove the back seats and gain a tremendous amount of room for the dogs and other stuff and make it a 2 seat aircraft. I've always said the B, C and E models are the best 2 place 4 seat aircraft you can find. Also when in cruise slide the seat back and it will give you more room. I'll slide mine all the way back during cruise. At least you will have some room in cruise phase of the flight.
  22. There is a company that produces a complete electronic fuel injection and and ignition system that could be put on our engines if we were not in the certified category. I like the system and would love to install it on my plane. If I am not mistaken don't some of the electronic ignition systems that have been approved for our planes vary the timing? Do they go above 25 degree BTDC? At altitude the lower MP in effect simulates a partially closed throttle position does it not? So we cold benefit form variable timing in cruise flight.
  23. yes check your governor I've had a governor once that wold not allow more than 2600 RPMs. Changed governor and solved problem.
