  2. A couple years ago I installed an Avidyne IFD550 and an overall panel upgrade. I have been very happy with the IFD550, although I have only used it for VFR since I have never gotten it to work correctly with the Stec 60-2 AutoPilot. That's another subject we can discuss some time. My problem now is that the IFD has simply failed. I have attached two short videos. I last flew the plane on 5/29/2020 since my annual expired at the end of May, but I go out every couple weeks and run the engine for about 15 to 20 minutes. I have delayed starting on my annual because my long time AP had a stro
  3. NOTE: This is a paid-for sponsored post. Due to popular demand, Avidyne announced they are extending the popular GNS Trade-In program through March 30, 2018. Customers with a GNS530W can get as much as $8,500 in trade value with the purchase of an IFD550! GNS trade-in values towards IFD purchase: As the largest volume IFD dealer, Avionics Source is not only matching this promotion but we're throwing in a free gift (worth up to $545) with a check/wire purchase until 3/30/18. Combined, this is the lowest price IFD upgrade option we've ever offered! 530W to IFD540: $6,450 530W to

  5. Another update on my panel. Hope everyone is staying safe! Stopped by Moyer Aviation to check on the update on my Mooney. Clean bill of heath on the annual inspection. With the virus my plane has been at a stand still. Hopefully they can start working on it soon! Stay safe all! 7. Hi Mooney fans! Im from Advanced Aviation Reno Inc and we are a dealership and install facility for Dynon certified, Trutrak autopilots, Avidyne, Trig Avionics, JPI and Surefly ignition systems! We love all Mooneys and we work on them all the time. We've been waiting on TruTrak finishing certification on the Mooney variant of their autopilots but after chatting today with our contact at Dynon, it seems highly likely that the Dynon autopilot for the HDX may be ready at the same time, if not before! (I presume TT and Dynon may have been working together?who knows) We can also do

  9. Is it me or does Jeppesen have the worst web site in the world? Trying to sign up for a subscription to NavData for a new IFD440. The only option they have is for the 540, which I assume works for both. Buuuuut, it crashes when I go to my cart. Their support is around during Mountain Time. Seems really weird for a global aviation company. People in Japan have to order at 3:00 AM? As far as I could tell, there was no option to buy through Avidyne. Which also has a pretty cruddy web site. I registered my units and noticed that their support website hasn't been updated since 2014
  10. Scenarios: 1. We purchased the MLB100 with our Avidyne AXP 322 and IFD 540. 2. Also, we have a GDL39R being used with Garmin Pilot. 3. What we have noticed on the Garmin Pilot with a GDL-39 since around mid-2018, after the update, we now have access and can utilize the new FIS-B weather products are available such as the following: Lightning Turbulence Icing Cloud Tops Graphical AIRMET Center Weather Advisory 4. My question is since MLB unit
  11. Just got this in my email. If anyone is on the fence between Avidyne and Garmin it might be worth a look. I only got $6300 for my 430w BTW when upgrading.
  12. Hey All... PilotSafety.org is saving my bacon, maybe literally, with their Master Course on the Garmin 430/530. If you are in need of online training courses for Avidyne, Garmin, IFR, Foreflight, please check out their website. Anyone using code: JOLIE gets a 20% discount. bit.ly/PSJolie
  13. What chord is used to charge this keyboard? It says it’s a mini USB but it’s not one I’m familiar with. There is no online literature or reference anywhere including the Avidyne warehouse. Thanks for your help.
  14. Every month I update the data on my apps on my iPads. Since I fly with two iPads it takes a while. I thought I would time it today to see how long each app took to update. To the best of my knowledge I have about the same areas and the same information chosen to download on each app (western US, VFR, IFR & Jet). My Internet connection isn't the fastest. They took: Wing X Pro 87 minutes FltPlan Go 26 minutes AeroVie 15 minutes Fly Q 3 minutes Avidyne 2 minutes
  15. A common clearance here (ZHU) is the Industry Nine departure to the Industry VOR then... Problem is that this can't be entered into my Avidyne 440 without loading all the individual waypoints. It forces you to choose a transition. The clearance is commonly issued without a transition to lower level flights. Is there any way to do this without loading all the individual points?
  16. For those who have asked for more in depth training on the IFD series of navigators, we have teamed up with Master CFI Gary Reeves of PilotSafety.org to provide webinars, in person seminars and a video series. The first of many webinars are scheduled (see below). Wednesday, May 11th 6:30pm (Pacific) (Thursday May 12th 0100 UTC) https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/1623049960924876036 For WINGS credit: http://www.faasafety.gov/SPANS/event_details.aspx?eid=68863&caller=/SPANS/events/EventList.aspx Monday, May 16th 2330 UTC 7:30pm (Central) https://attendee.
  17. Avidyne is offering their IFD550 with 'free' ADS-B I/O. It looks to be less than 20 AMU with all the necessary stuff to install. Since my IFR glass panel upgrade budget just happens to be 30 AMU, this looks like it may be the solution for me. Any comments from current owners? Avidyne seems to be the Avis to the Kool-Aid vendors Hertz; i.e., they try harder.
  18. Any of you guys have a pirep on Avidyne's IFD 100 app? Thanks
  19. Since there is so much debate and misinformation between the Garmin GTN & Avidyne IFD here is another video I made showing how you can fly an unpublished hold with the Avidyne. I searched for a video showing how to fly unpublished holds in the GTN and after my head stopped spinning I fell asleep. I was shocked how difficult is was with the Garmin unit and how easy it is with the Avidyne. Enjoy!
  20. It looks like I'm pulling and trading in most of my Garmin products for Avidyne. Out: Garmin 530W, 430W, 330ES, GDL-88 & GDL-69A In: Avidyne IFD-540, 440 (with WiFi & BT), AXP340 & SkyTrax 100 Keeping: GMA-340, KFC-150, KAS297B, KCS-55A, WX10A, Shading Miniflo & EI GEM (that will be the next upgrade)
  21. Sheltair is sponsoring our "OPEN TO ALL" Mooney Pilots airport day on Friday, Sept 30th. Everyone is welcome, you do not have to be registered for the Mooney Summit to attend. The new Mooney will be represented by CEO Vivek Saxenna and Dirk Vanderzee, L3, Avidyne, Weep no More, Bruce Jaeger, and a host of Mooney experts not limited to the likes of Bob Kromer, and Don Maxwell. Did I mention the food is free and Avidyne will be giving away an Ipad and gift certificate to use towards Avidyne products? Lets fill the ramp! With our 95 registered attendees and spouses, plus those that can just come

  23. Avidyne is excited to announce connectivity with industry-leading app providers ForeFlight and Fltplan Go. This announcement expands Avidyne's connectivity options which include the previously announced MK10 Bluetooth® Keyboard. Initial connectivity will allow iPads with the newly-announced ForeFlight version 7.6 to wirelessly receive and display GPS position and flight plan information from Avidyne's IFD540/440 units running the current v10.1 software. FltPlan Go running on an iPad, Android tablet, and Windows 10 tablet can wirelessly display GPS position and flight plan informa
  24. Avidyne has received STC approval for the MK10 Bluetooth® keyboard. The MK10 Bluetooth Keyboard allows pilots to wirelessly control their panel-mounted IFD440 or IFD540 system.
