  1. @82Mike Tomlinson really did a nice job on that panel. Everything is in the proper spot and lined up perfectly! I really like the recessed painted screws, top quality work IMO. Do you know what exact screw they used for all the instrument/switch attachments?
  2. With the engine being 40 years old are you going to iran the engine or just the cylinders? Crazy that even before he fell ill the plane flew less than 1k hrs in 30 years.
  3. Probably around 1000 nm. I’d probably burn 70 gals. Just curious what amount of fuel you’d budget for a no winds trip like that. Honestly curious.
  4. The old system combined the cht prob with the heating element. The new system uses a separate (jpi/ei) cht probe and a Tanis intake flange bolt heating element. Both systems seem to work very well but the newer one is probably more durable.
  5. My experience has been the combo sensors are the first to fail / give low readings. However, I understand you want the information on both devices because the 830 is not primary. Not sure what to suggest but I’d probably make do with one or the other or put the $500 toward a primary unit.
  6. You need to do what you’re comfortable with. I would cut the flush mount bracket to provide clearance where necessary and get the job done. Having said that I can see his concern especially considering the mounting screws and having limited access on three different sides. Whatever you choose you are committed IMO unless you mount it vertically replacing the stormscope.
  7. It would be nice if the 440 could import the traffic and weather info over WiFi from the stratus. Otherwise I agree with @LANCECASPER that now might not be the best time to install the 100 box unless it was included free.
  8. Looks great. My switches are in the same order as yours. I was thinking about moving the boost pump switch to the right side (nav lights switch?) just so I don’t inadvertently turn off the radio master switch. Anyone else have this concern?
  9. Well I still have dibs but it’ll cost him another 50k Not sure I’d get out of the aircraft and leave it unoccupied with the prop spinning. Trying to hand prop it by himself?
  10. My advice is to buy a flush mount bracket and mount it horizontally. The 3 1/8 cutout is in the wrong spot and not far enough over to cut another one. Have your A&P cut a rectangle and mount the flush mount it will look very custom. If you upgrade your panel in the future you will want the flush mount bracket anyway so it’s money well spent.
  11. Let the current owner know I have first dibs in about 20 years.
  12. IMO comparing 92 gals to 130 gals and complaining that you cannot accurately measure the initial 20-30 percent is crazy. That added utility of 38 extra gallons on an airframe that is just as efficient is massive. With 310 hp even if you mistakenly added a little too much fuel it will not be a problem unless you’re on fire. Even 200 lbs over gross would probably takeoff and climb better than 80% of the non turbine aircraft out there.
  13. 200 TAS at 8k! Can’t help with the software issue but I’d sure like the extra 50kts cruise speed.
  14. They are pricey but I do like having the inertia unit on the pilots side. I buckle it at the beginning of the flight and don’t even notice / think about it again until I shut the engine off. Huge benefit with manual gear and changing fuel tanks.
  15. Looks like a nice Cirrus! I decided not to buy a new one this year because they stopped giving me free water at the Oshkosh booth
  16. I would first check the wire connections and make sure you have a good ground to the engine.
  17. I know a lot of people put in the Whelen light that is almost identical to the certified version but the unit you picked is very different. Any concerns? Looks very bright with the 4 amps vs 2.3-2.6 amps for the certified versions which is a good thing.
  18. Mooney aircraft/owners are similar yet massively different in many ways. On one end of the spectrum you have neglected planes selling for 20k and on the other owners that budget more than that for yearly operating expenses. Some pilots like myself are just learning the ropes while others have 1000’s of hours flying very advanced aircraft. I really enjoy the spectrum on this forum and in person.
  19. Makes sense, use the probe and previous hole from the factory egt location and put it to good use.
  20. Checked with ForeFlight. Asked for the plastic replacement parts that I would happily pay for. Instead they are offering a one time replacement of the unit. Not really happy overall since if I forget the unit in the plane again the next unit will be toast. Full disclosure: the unit was left in the plane on the left side of the glare shield (the vertical portion right next to the side window). Spent two days outside in 80 degree weather. The unit works good but I can’t recommend this product until the company upgrades the 1oz of plastic used to protect it.
  21. The O2 runs the Hobbs time in the back off the oil pressure sensor I think. No tach time available. You might check in with COPA to see how they wire in the “Flight time” Hobbs next to the factory meter.
  22. I sport to and from the airport in a 4-door Saturn with a car seat in the back. And yes, I do have to fight off all the ladies with a stick.
  23. I think you may be correct. The insurance would probably be higher than the 2% they are paying now and might eat into the 68% of this non profit income used for compensation and salaries.
  24. That thread was eye opening! The FAA, FBO, and family members each suing separately?!! All the legal paperwork used to direct 100% of the liability to the pilot or more importantly to his/her surviving family members.
  25. For me this structured flight for non family or friends is going to have to wait until 500 hrs / IR / smooth coverage which is probably 2 years out. I’ll have many years to help out in the future and I see no advantage in having newer/low time pilots take on these responsibilities. However, helping as a copilot would be a great idea but I’m not sure how many do that or if UL would allow.
