I paid just under 800 for a new a20bt set a few months ago. Just watch the eBay auctions and try to combine the 10 percent coupons with the end/bin date. CFI’s get a discount and freebies are given away during the large air shows so people stock up on a few at a time.

I’ve been giving this some thought. I too have an Aspen and I’m thinking about adding a G5 as a backup. If I can find someone to sign it off it will allow me to drop my vacuum system and get rid of my cdi. It would also allow me to install the 500 AP. I’ve started watching the used market for a gad 29 as individuals upgrade to the 29e version.

I think the concern was nighttime, mountainous, winter, deadline flying and worrying about fuel burn and a couple extra knots. Take out one or two of the requirements and it sounds great. IMO there is a difference between flying over that stuff in the flight levels and landing/TO in it.
-
I think people are already in a holding pattern for anything avionics related. They need to come strong out of the gate and grab every inch of market share possible.
-
@peevee no luck getting the rocket to run LOP? Lots of rockets on the used market right now.

Sell the 35 and buy a nice FIKI ovation or bravo. Start saving for a TBM and fly as much as possible.

I do believe it’s making 310 but from the statement above it is probably TC’ing at that point. I’m curious what MP the 310hp acclaim is obtaining on full power climb out.
-
I would not leave the shop until the 37 mentioned above is set. The difference between 27.2 and 29.2 for the NA version is 375 vs 400+.

If you do send the turbo out I’d recommend Main Turbo in CA. Talked with them on the phone a couple times and they seem like straight shooters.

The hanger looks almost completely open from the picture above. Since he was trying to leave before the sun came up I would think it would be in equilibrium? I was told in the past (OWT?) that RV antifreeze is corrosive to metal strainers so I wipe them down after getting the cottage ready for winter. It would be a lot less expensive than tks fluid.

I think from what @kortopates said in a previous post 29gph is the sweet spot for the 310 ovation and 37gph for the 310 acclaim. It’s interesting to me that the same hp engine with TN and a lot larger air intake would need that much extra fuel. I’d imagine the 15-25k is where the extra fuel is needed? @exM20K Do you find the engine temps currently stay the same from 500-20k? I’ve noticed a fair amount of acclaim’s for sale with top overhauls in the 500-800 hr range. Fuel flow set too low?
-
No hanger door? Concrete or gravel floor? I would think temp and humidity would be similar if the hanger is open to the elements. Unless the hanger floor was releasing some moisture during the seasonal change. Was the wing dry before you rolled it out?

I was implying a gallon or two above the stc’d amount which made a massive difference for a plane I was a safety pilot for. However, as I really appreciate and trust your guidance, have you found increasing the fuel flow in o-360’s to help with climbout cht’s? Or is it too hard to get an evenly dispersed fuel mixture?
-
I believe if you have even adequate cooling and clean oil distributed throughout the engine it will be able to withstand higher power with minimal engine problems. Having said that with the testing I’ve done so far on my C reducing the power to 25 squared drops my cht’s from 390-400 to 365-375. In the future I’ll be trying 26/2500 to see how the temperatures hold up. I’m climbing at 130 mph and 500-750 fpm. @exM20K make sure the mechanic bumps your FF. Might need another gal or two to keep things cool on the climb at 2700 although the acclaim has good size air intakes.

Weighed my Naked Mooney Today

I thought it was done with full oil and unusable fuel? -
Should I get a Hartzell Top prop for my J?

Third post down. @Jeev I too am going to keep the McCauley going for the weight savings. My plane is already nose heavy no reason to put more weight up there. Mine was overhauled 500 hrs ago and new blades went on at that time. Hopefully, it will be uneventful when the time comes. Thanks for sharing! -
I’d swap the 430 for a 430w as soon as possible. People are paying crazy money for a used 430 and you could probably do the upgrade hardware wise for just over $1k (would be $3.5k to upgrade the unit at Garmin).

Had a good time flying around the state today. Participated in the Operation Good Cheer hauling presents to people in need. Had a nice Acclaim land at Pontiac (PTK) while I was getting registered. Took off into beautiful weather headed to Traverse City (TVC). Spent most of the time under the hood hand flying and was pretty tired after a few approaches on the way home. All in all a great way to spend a Saturday.

The G5 with GAD29b can output heading information to your AP. However, you still need attitude information from the current AI for the AP to function. Per the STC if you have a FD it cannot be moved but many shops are not reading the fine print so I’m sure you will find someone willing to do it.

Flying Magazine write-up of the M20U Ovation Ultra

Also useful is the isolate button on the intercom to allow the back seat passengers to vent before they are left and the next convenient fuel stop -

Thanks for the link Deb. 1.5 times the value of my plane for TKS? I’ll buy the grandfather version thank you very much! -
I’ve noticed if you buy used avionics that are not in demand you can collect items for next to nothing if you spend the time. However, the savings on new or next to new items is much lower. Many shops will discount 12-14 percent off retail (read they are still making money off the equipment sale) and provide fair install costs. If you buy from a separate retailer (who is making a living selling the items) you can’t expect the shop to install it for the same amount. It also goes against some of the stc install requirements to install used equipment that has not been back to the factory.
