  1. No, Bruce is a good guy. Family has used his services as a MSC for a few years. However, I have everything I need (already replaced the screws and made repairs to other areas) minus the Al tape and I didn’t want to bother him to ask about splitting up his kit. Up to this point I have not addressed the larger cracks which will be aided with the tape.
  2. That’s not a door it’s a damn airstair, my wife would be thrilled!
  3. Has anyone found a source for the Al tape with the 3m adhesive that he uses? I can find the two separate components but nothing ready to use.
  4. I’d guess for the 440/540 would be a 3k premium to the 430/530. I would figure the cheap side of used prices for installed vref prices on everything else.
  5. If I was doing a new panel right now it would include the 10 inch txi panel, the L3 500 w/nav, and a 900/930/50 engine monitor. Some shops have been bending the rules with installing the g5 for AI backup. I don’t think any of them have used the g5 for airspeed and altitude backup which it is not certified for in any installation. The aspen system with dual air data computers and a large backup battery only needs a backup AI the Garmin needs all three.
  6. I would think at least two batteries or weights (both?) were used. With my turbo system and two external oil filters my battery needed to be moved to the back.
  7. How hard is it in the US to turn an old certified aircraft to an experimental with no limitations? Don’t see many certified Planes go that route even though many old airframes are pennies on the dollar.
  8. Some might say that flying long distance over open water is putting loved ones at risk. I’m not one who believes this but viewpoint is everything.
  9. I really like the paint and the way it flows with that style of windows. It would look great on my Mooney with the @Sabremech cowling.
  10. I would send the engine to a trusted shop for an IRAN. The reason is the low oil pressure and quantity might have caused some internal damage that could cause a problem down the road. The shop will send out the crank and case to be inspected and catch any corrosion issues that might be starting. Jewel has some fantastic pricing and I’m sure the IRAN cost will be considerably cheaper.
  11. Does this mean use professionals or buy better materials? Some jobs it pays to hire out.
  12. Looks like your ram clamp is very close to the G5 knob. Might want to check it at full deflection to make sure the knob does not cause interference. I had to use a lot smaller clamp to provide clearance for my Aspen.
  13. Looks nice! Looks like the Al tape is critically important during the stripping stage. I will keep this in mind when I refresh mine in the next year or two.
  14. Crap, I’m at the master pilot level. This winter is going to be rough
  15. That's because they did not design the unit and have no control over production because it is 100 percent outsourced. However, being the only one on MS that believes, I’m confident that Sandia will be shipping this winter (keep in mind winter in the UP can extend into June).
  16. Taking off with 4 quarts is questionable imo. However, taking off again when you just burned off 75% of your oil in 3.5 hrs...please be careful.
  17. I think the pricing is in line IF it comes with the AP interface. Probably the street price will be $3k higher than the G5. A good investment for planes that have good - great working AP’s. This unit is TSO’d for AI replacement and the altitude and airspeed are also tso’d. Does this mean you can legally remove all other guages except for a hsi (g5 or 525) with no other backups?
  18. The thought is a good but instead coming up with a mini led projector that uses apple screen mirroring to do the same thing. That would provide enough power to be viewable in adverse conditions. Edit: I need to get cranking on this to have it ready for action OSH ‘18
  19. I’d like to have that problem on every trip long distance trip I take.
  20. Is the AP output standard on the $6k unit or an upgrade?
  21. I was a little to negative in my initial response but the previous two posters said it a lot better.
  22. Not to be negative but I would never join a partnership where the members did not have equal voting rights. Planes are cheap, it’s the maintenance, storage, and upgrades that eat you alive. Only way I’d join your “club” is if I just paid an hourly rate to help cover expenses. Otherwise the plane turns into a partnership plane, not your plane anymore.
  23. I have the R7 if it would help. PM your email and I’ll send it over.
  24. I have an stec 50 as well. The behavior you described sounds like the AP is not receiving the heading output from the G5. What happens in approach mode does it track the heading bug, fly straight and level, or does it only work when dialed into a LOC?
  25. I know what you mean. Currently driving 25 mins down a busy truck filled highway. Trying to get a hanger at a smaller airport that has nice country roads to take the MC on.
