  1. Is the shop going to rivet all the flush mounts in place? Was thinking how nice it would look to flush rivet all the mounts before painting the panel.
  2. Property tax in MI is great if you live in the same home for many years. Not so much for those buying lakefront homes from elderly couples where the tax liability can double.
  3. Went up flying this evening after an isolated storm cancelled my lesson yesterday. Can’t really explain in words how much I’m enjoying flying a Mooney. Having only 80 hours total time from 15 years ago in a 152 I was apprehensive about jumping to a complex aircraft. It turned out to be a fairly easy transition although I’m still very cautious about runway length and weather conditions. Logged about 50 hrs in the new plane and things are starting to flow better. I really appreciate @Cruiser ‘s son for recommending a great instructor for transition and current instrument training. The plane appears to be a solid instrument platform although it keeps me busy on missed approaches. It burns around 7 gph for training which is nice. Looking forward to flying as much as possible.
  4. I’m thinking of mountains or oceans. Idaho and Oregon peak my interest but my wife likes the warmth to escape the Michigan winters. I’m looking for a good value. Not planning on chasing values that have doubled in the last decade. In my research Spruce is definitely on the list and we have family in that area. My issue with many airparks is I’m not a fan of golf. I’m not planning on playing and don’t want to support the grounds.
  5. To old, not enough skill. I’ve also heard the hours can be demanding.
  6. Thinking about airpark living lately. Current plan is to research over the next few years and rent in a lot of different areas to see what works for the family. Ideally I’ll be looking for a modest house with a hanger on the property for the plane when I’m there and a trailered boat/car when I’m away. I'm looking for advice from those that enjoy or have reservations about property they own and live in part time or full.
  7. Try getting more aggressive with the ignition key, the SOS backfeeds through the switch and if some pilots are not pushing hard enough (to fully engage the contacts) the spark might not reach the proper mag. Is the front wheel soaked in fuel? With mine anything over two pumps is reaching the tire in warm temps.
  8. I’m one of those pilots. No rotating beacon so legally I need to have the strobes on while moving. Pretty sure I can still turn them off if it adversely impacts visibility.
  9. Not sure I follow. The dial on the CDI should not change the course signal between the gps source and the AP. I think in most installations moving the cdi course dial has no control over the course deviation needle when using GPS. Do you have a switch between the sl30/gx55 and the CDI or does the unit switch them for you?
  10. That paint job is amazing!
  11. Is 10 degrees a typo? Just wondering because apparent wind change while changing altitude can require more than a 10 degree adjustment. Im glad you got your plane how you want it.
  12. My opinion as well but I feel the same way about all avionics.
  13. Bad battery? The landing light etc load along with the gear causing voltage to drop momentarily?
  14. I would check with the offices that normally give physicals for CDL drivers. My guess is other PCP's will not want to take on the perceived liability.
  15. No pictures right at the moment but the main driving force for this display was to augment the 430w screen with this mfd screen. I'm thinking about putting the SV on my unit. You might find the AOA displayed on the mfd vs pfd will be a lot more visible/useful. Something to keep in mind if the upgrades have not been loaded yet.
  16. I'm having second thoughts about a panel upgrade. I really need to invest in a new interior and keep the plane in the air as much as possible for my instrument training. I'm putting up this package for a unique buyer. One who has a Aspen pfd currently and wants to add another screen. I've been told by my installer it is a fairly reasonable/quick install. If the unit does not sell on MS or BT in the next month or two I'll probably just have it installed. Because every C model needs a dual screen aspen This is a package deal and includes a brand new Aspen MFD500. The MFD has the adsb unlock for a Garmin transponder. It also has the synthetic vision unlock. The SV will not work on the mfd unless the pfd also has the SV unlock. For this reason I'm also including a sealed unlock upgrade for synthetic vision on your current pfd. This package is just over a month old and never used. Price for this package is $4500 delivered by plane or UPS, depending on distance. Thanks, Chris
  17. I've found if you double expected costs it will be less painful when the bill comes in the mail. Don't worry about mx costs 10 years down the road. You might not even own the plane at that time. I'm glad you found a place so close to the airport.
  18. I would try for 1k installed. You might need to run some wires to achieve that. I'm pretty sure you need to purchase the unit through a dealer/installer.
  19. Any pictures of the upgraded panel (svs and aoa)? Thinking about adding the svs and maybe another display.
  20. Not helping Bob, I'm not excited about labeling my plane in this manner.
  21. I think lithium batteries like the 50-80 percent charge as a resting state. I know with lipo batteries it damages them to leave at 100%. So maybe your unit is advanced or just unique.
  22. To add to what Jason said. I tried to underinsure my aircraft and ask if I could self insure my panel. The underwriter said anything installed in the aircraft belonged to the insurance company with a full loss situation.
  23. Starr is who I have as well. My guess is it was under the 5k limit my policy has and might have been part of your paid coverage. I'm glad it worked out for you.
  24. I think my policy has a $5k allowance on recently added equipment. I'd grab the contract and read over the fine print.
  25. I understand why vac driven AI's get a bad name. However, so far I have no complaints and just figure $0.30-.40 an hour maintenance cost. Probably about the same as replacement batteries for the electric backup AI units. Honestly it gives me piece of mind to have a backup separate from my single battery and alternator.
