  1. I wouldn’t fight it. Go with the system you know, it’s just a cell phone... I use FF on my phone all the time to check weather, flight plan, fuel prices, etc.
  2. The 3080 does look like it brings a good amount extra to the table for the modest price increase. It also releases a month earlier... Not sure my budget build can handle that powerhouse.
  3. Also having this problem and prefer the dark theme.
  4. Well the time has come to build a new computer for flying my desk around lower Michigan. Was planning on a dirt cheap lower end build but couldn’t decide on a video card. Well the new 3070 was just announced so the budget will be blown wide open. Anyone currently playing FS2020? What about current or future computer builds w/specs? Thinking about triple 40 inch screens down the road...VR not sure.
  5. So did you take a lap around the pattern...or the state considering TBM speeds?
  6. I agree with Don and would probably go with a Bravo. However, don’t be fooled into thinking a cheap bravo is a money saving adventure. An overhaul all in could be in the 40-80k region although even a K could set you back 30-50k.
  7. Turbos are great but with kids I think the usefulness fades away unless you normally fly out of high DA airports. Just climbing to 250 from 900 msl takes a long time at a fairly high burn rate. Wouldn’t make much sense for short (3-4hr) legs. IMO the risk is too high for young kids above 12k... @LevelWing I’d really look at the ovation/eagle or follow your gut to another brand. The nice thing about the wide piper models is the extra elbow room and interior space...I’d really like a pa46...
  8. I’m amazed how quiet and smooth the Ovation is. It really makes long hops in comfort possible. I can absolutely travel twice as far in the O vs C and feel the same fatigue. Sound insulation, higher quality AP, faster speeds, higher wing loading, etc. all add to the comfort. With smaller kids I absolutely feel the Ovation, A36, and pa46 are the pinnacle depending on family size and mission.
  9. Gorgeous plane, you picked a nice one!
  10. @Will.iam I think you’re going to find avionics are expensive. Not just the equipment but the install as well. A couple G5’s run about 8k installed, add a AP and you could be around 20. A full Dynon with 440 and a new panel might touch 50k especially if you push the plane into Sarasota’s shop. Good luck and enjoy the adventure.
  11. Probably best to let the market decide what the plane is worth. I’ve noticed a lot of planes, turbo or not, can sit on the market for a long time. If the seller wants to move it out he can lower the price, upgrade the plane, or wait for the market to capture the asking price.
  12. I hide a set in the tail. It has saved my bacon more than once.
  13. Ovation 2 vs 3 is 2500@280hp vs 2700@310hp Ultra is a little cleaner but has an extra step. AC gives up some speed. TKS costs a little more speed. The ovation 2 two blade prop was fast but a dog on the ground. The type S prop is 4-5 kts faster than the standard top prop. 13gph=fast ... 18gph=faster
  14. The DX (steam) model ovation and bravo had the lower panels. The change occurred when Mooney started up production again in 2003. Over the last 6 months a late model bravo and ovation (2003-04) sold but I’m too lazy to lookup the serial numbers.
  15. IMO the 10% extra the G5 cost installed vs the AV30 gives you a lot of flexibility down the road.
  16. The second AI will not be a primary or backup in our instillation. I appreciate you checking and the fast response.
  17. There was an FIKI encore for sale in Utah recently. IIRC the useful load was in the 950 range. We have icing for months in Michigan. However, most of the time it’s found below 8k and with the cooler temps the O is climbing like crazy. Out west with mountains the turbo would be a huge asset. Plenty of long bodies available with TKS...take the time to find a nice one with it already installed.
  18. Please clarify @Rmag or others. I realize the g5 / gad29 / gfc has a two G5 limit to be fully integrated with the system. However the plane is in the shop getting two G5’s, one as a backup AI and the other for copilot AI. I’m under the impression that both will give navigation data and will allow autopilot control.
  19. A ride does sound like fun. However, I’m more interested in looking over the craftsmanship that Tom invested a decade and thousands of hours on. One of the highlights every year at osh is finding the home built glass aircraft that just take your breath away.
  20. I think it’s a really nice system and would be a perfect upgrade to the stec 50 in my C. However, the big spenders are going to go Garmin and the savers are waiting for TT. The small portion of owners left might get a dynon if they’re starting from scratch or an stec if they can upgrade the current unit in the plane. I’d say new sales 3100 are out of touch for Mooney budgets and the percentage of planes with current stec units is small. After trying for months they couldn’t even get 10 or 15 orders.
  21. Questions about the stc should be directed to @tomgo2 I do like the turbo. However, I’m not convinced it’s worth the upgrade cost to add on. It’d probably add $5k to the value and cost $25k to install. I’d be looking for a 231 or a C with it already installed.
  22. Everyone feels that there current or future setup is ideal. IMO the YD upgrade cost is putting you dangerously close to the delta between two 275’s and a g3x. It’s only money, spend it and enjoy it.
  23. GPSS is pretty nice...might as well toss a couple in. I feel the 275 on the used market will hold its value well if you want to upgrade to a big screen.
  24. Also under the knife for a gfc install. Very excited.
  25. Already have two partners lined up for a really nice RV 6-9 to come along. When it does the C will be sold and I’ll have two nice partnerships...a 4 place all weather travel machine and a 2 place nice day flyer.
