  1. Otherwise known as logo lights. These lights are positioned on top of the horizontal stabiliser on both sides. Apart from the legalities and possible installation issues, I’d be concerned with ruining the clean look of the surface. Having said all that it would certainly look good at night.
  2. Anyone hazard a guess what a 'small shock replacement' could be? It's just that I've never thought the rubber donuts were really shock absorbers.
  3. For me... I have one pair of Bose A20... go well with... hats no hair glasses
  4. Thanks Cliff. I could read that info again and again and never tire from it.
  5. I agree. If you expand the second last pic and look closely, although you can't see the front of the right wing, you can see the wingtip lens cover is slightly dislodged, the rear window is shattered with glass strewn immediately underneath and the trunk lid has damage to the rear and left side as well as being forced open. All consistent with a rear impact.
  6. Best featured site if I want to know what is predicted days before departure. I've also postponed flights and replanned based on their information. Reliable and intuitive menu.
  7. I’ve had the pleasure of a knee and hip replacement, so one of the many reasons I would much rather fly my Mooney than fly with the airlines is I don’t have to put up with the prison entry treatment every time I need or want to fly.
  8. Glad this didn't end in tragedy as did the Southwest 737 in 2018 that lost a fan blade causing engine and cowl fragments to penetrate the fuselage, including a cabin window, killing a lady seated next to that window. More often than not, a safe return with no one hurt is accomplished, but the potential to hurt or kill someone on board or on the ground is real. Well done to the flight and cabin crew.
  9. Avidyne IFD540 or 440.
  10. After close to 20 years of ownership, nearly all of the above over periods of time. Over the last 500 hours (apart from upgrades) have mostly been the usual AD’s, plus wear and tear items picked up at annuals. Also fuel tank leaks and a recent valve guide / valve replacement. Stuff happens and we can’t avoid wear and tear. Keep ahead of maintenance and your bird will love you for it.
  11. You are absolutely correct Brad and I should’ve elaborated when I mentioned LNAV. I intentionally did not add the +V for that reason and just assumed that everyone is aware of those limitations.
  12. I think common sense needs to be applied here. If instrument rated and flying into a city or country airport at night whether VMC or not, one should make use of the available RNAV or LPV runway approach. Guaranteed obstacle, including power line clearance. If night VFR rated then comply with the regs. Should also guarantee obstacle and power line clearance. Even better if slope guidance in the form of PAPI or VASI is available. Night flying can be magically beautiful, but it can also be much more challenging with the black hole effect, illusions and other dangers such as unseen obstacles.
  13. Easily done. Despite checklists, we can all get distracted. In addition to the checklist and just prior to the takeoff roll, I eyeball the trim and flaps settings are correct. Both gotcha items. Well done in not panicking.
  14. Well done in noticing the low voltage. I’ll add that to my own after take off scan. Others may say they would not have declared an emergency, it doesn’t matter. There is no right or wrong. You called it as you saw it and at the end, the service wasn’t needed with the added result of a successful outcome.
  15. Sounds to me you might be back one day! Safe journeys and keep in touch.
  16. Thanks Don. I see what you mean. Happy New Year to you and Shirley!!
  17. Like beauty, desire is in the eye of the beholder. As always, Geebee offers good advice. Also ask the opinion of Ovation, Bravo and Acclaim owners. Better still, if you can get a hold of one of these, fly it at night and see for yourself. John Breda is obviously happy with his setup. After your research and you are sure you want and can afford it, then go for it!
  18. Hello Don. From the GFC600 PG: GFC600 Mode Controller.pdf
  19. Good to see you got it sorted in quick time, Oscar. The reason I asked which navigator and GPSS you use is because I have 2 x IFDs, an Aspen and a 55x combo. If the 55x is initialised before the IFDs, the GPSS in the 55x fails to engage. Anyone else who has a similar combo with that issue, just initialise your IFD first and all will be good. The IFD likes to be on top of the pecking order.
  20. Sounds like a married couple Which navigator do you have? When the failed GPSS appears, which one are you using? The Aspen or STEC?
  21. Congratulations Richard. Its always a good feeling to have those exams behind you. Enjoy your training. The hardest choice will be choosing training days to fly in actual IF conditions.
  22. A little off topic, but the Boeing 707 also has a Johnson bar to manually extend only its nose gear in the event of a gear extension failure.
  23. This is so sad to read. Imagine how his son must feel after listening and watching his father's final moments.
  24. Well said Paul and I could not agree more.
