  1. Yep, same here. Did a trip from Australia to Kerrville to attend a Homecoming in 09 and was given a tour of the factory by then Sales Manager Susan Harrison when only a short number of employees remained. Hope to return sometime in the near future for another look. Victor
  2. Broken piston ring? Victor
  3. Thank you both Tim and Marky for your advice and efforts. I will order a bunch of these. $6 with a bit of creativeness vs $220 is an easy decision. Victor
  4. Hard to tell from the pics Tim, but are these a smooth and brighter white like the later ETA covers or opaque like the original Klixon covers they replace?
  5. I recall some years back when I was part of a US Mooney Mailing (email) List there was a similar discussion regarding the pros and cons of the step. Former Mooney test pilot, Bob Kromer used to chime in occasionally during various discussions with useful information together with data he still retained from his various test flights to help answer questions. Bob chimed in re this same discussion and said that when Mooney factory engineering had become interested in finding out the difference between speeds with the step attached and detached, he was asked to obtain the data. He flew a Mooney (type escapes me) at different flight regimes with the aircraft all wired up with the necessary plumbing and instruments to evaluate the results. The final results reported by Bob were a difference of .5 of a knot at best. Some members here would remember Bob's contributions. I wish that he was able to contribute to this awesome forum. What an asset. Victor
  6. I should be more diligent with the search function. Thanks for the link Marauder and particularly your pictures. Very helpful. Victor
  7. G'day there Marauder. The covers that helitim is sourcing are Klixon style, but look more like the ETA type from what limited information I know. Helitim might be able to elaborate further on this. Victor
  8. Hi there again Tim. I have since made inquiries with LASAR and Dugosh. I discovered the originals are not available and only the later models are, however the circuit breaker would also have to be purchased, which makes it very expensive. This is in reference to an 80 model J. Looking very forward to your Pirep. Victor
  9. Congrats MooneyPilot. Your pride and joy is awesome! Can you please advise where you sourced the new switches? Thanks, Victor
  10. Is there a link to pics of the M10J?
  11. Almost unheard of, but it has happened Byron. Many years ago at 2,000 feet over the suburbs of Sydney, Australia a friend of mine suffered an engine failure in his M20C due to a sudden, massive oil loss. His only choice was to glide his Mooney into a golf course within gliding distance. It was a successful outcome as a result of the Mooney's exceptional gliding characteristics, touching down early enough at the right speed and deliberately rolling out between two close together trees toward the end of the fairway. Both wings were sheered off causing the aircraft to come to a complete stop. He walked away without a scratch. Depending upon where you touch down and if you have sufficient control of the situation, rolling out between the trees is a manoeuvre that has to be done during the latter stage of landing. Plus the trees have to be there toward the end of the roll, close together with no others in the immediate front. It was exceptional skill in my opinion to successfully land and stop on a golf course surrounded by houses in the middle of a city. The Mooney is not a STOL aircraft and those fairways look rather short when viewed from above. Victor M20J
