Congratz, what a beauty! May you enjoy her for many years and many miles

I'm with Erik on this one. It is important to not keep perpetuating unsubstantiated and disproven rumors. The Cirrus could pass the spin test just fine and was regularly spun during certification. They sensibly chose not to spend the time and dollars to get the spin cert given the technical and marketing advantage of the chute. 'nough said.

Reserving old, expired N numbers
Robert C. replied to tigers2007's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
This seems like a classic topic for AOPA to pursue with the FAA. Maybe not a top priority, but nonetheless..... What do you think George Perry? -
i lost 2 in 2 years Thought it was hard landings but my A&P told me it happens quite regularly. A&P got new ones and glued them back in and I don't recall what he charged me.

Don't think I can make it to the Florida one unfortunately. Am penciling in Chattanooga in June, which is where I attended my first one 2 years ago Robert

I used A.F.I.T. and can confirm they don't use Sims. Tony basically runs a bunch of instructors in different parts of the country. They usually come out to your location and train you in your aircraft so it's a good idea to ask for an instructor with Mooney time. In my case I combined it with my insurance checkout and transition training and the insurance company required an instructor with 50 hrs in type for the transition training and sign off. So you may want to check if your insurance policy says anything about that. For my PPL I traveled to the instructor's location and he had lined up a local Piper Archer to rent. For the IR the instructor joined me in Atlanta where I picked up my Ovation and we then flew to my home field for the remaining days of training. That worked because I was home alone that week with my wife visiting our daughter and grandson; so I had the house to myself and no distractions which was helpful. Don't know for sure about PIC but thought they worked out of specific locations and had their own facilities there. Good luck! Robert

NY Tracon is at least 20 people short if I recall correctly what they told us during a tour last summer.

Is Bruce's still the Bee's Knee's for covers?
Robert C. replied to RobertGary1's topic in General Mooney Talk
+1 for Jim from me as well. Am very pleased with my covers. And if I recall correctly they were noticeably cheaper than Bruce. -
Elevator trim making clicking sound
Robert C. replied to NotarPilot's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Check the wires running through the control yoke. When they get chafed they can cause all kind of problems.....like my trim sticking "randomly" driving both my A&P mad for the rather long while it took to figure it out. He replaced the wires and all is good. Could the clicking be related to something shorting due to chafing? -
I thought you couldn't even load a WAAS approach on the 430 (non-WAAS) so any LPV or LNAV/VNAV won't show up when you press "APR" and hence you can't get symbology either.

Beautiful Erik! Once that exterior paint job is done she's going to look brand spanking new Can't wait to see her at a future luncheon run.

Thanks for the PiRep Blaine, that's great news. What shop did you use?

Clarence, I'll echo Anthony's ( and the others') comments. Humility can be in short supply on this board, and you starting this post shows that you have it and aren't above recognizing what went well and what didn't go so well. You have made many valuable contributions to the discussions here and have served the Mooney community faithfully. We'll remember those contributions long after we have forgotten about one thread having gone sideways. Best, Robert

Hi Astra, Wonderfully focused approach to development. I have the funny feeling that it'll make you a meticulously prepared (and therefore safer) pilot. So taking you up on your invitation: can't help with the advice sought on the upcoming trip, but have thoughts on some other things. If you are serious about using the Mooney for business travel you'll need a high dispatch rate. Not just the airplane but also the pilot! You'll want to get that IR asap and be realistic about what kind of weather you can fly with that straight out of the box. It may take longer than you think to be safe. Icing will be an issue so please be realistic and cautious Don't know what budget you have and what time availability but I did my IR using an "accelerated" program. Had the ticket in 10 days. A bunch of outfits can help you. I used A.F.I.T. which has at least 3 instructors in your general neck of the wood (1 in Cedar City, 1 in St George and one in Idaho I think). Good luck, you're embarking on an exciting journey! Robert

That is what the AOPA website says, but as David's quote from the FAA training course notes shows that doesn't seem to be the case. Per AOPA: This rule impacts any pilot who intends to operate VFR within 60 miles of the DCA VOR/DME. Pilots have to complete the free online course offered at www.faasafety.gov or attend an FAA Safety Program seminar offered by local flight standards district offices (FSDOs), if and when available. Upon completion of the online course, pilots should print the certificate of training completion. While the document does not need to be carried with the pilot, it is required to be provided within a “reasonable amount of time” if requested. The FAA will maintain a database of all the pilots who have completed the FAA’s online training course, and a duplicate copy of the certificate of training completion can be printed at any time without having to re-take the course. All of the following operations are exempt from the training requirement: Pilots operating under instrument flight rules (IFR); Law enforcement, military, and aeromedical operations; and A pilot who must deviate to the extent necessary to address an emergency situation. However, if a pilot operating under IFR within 60 nm of the DCA VOR/DME decides to cancel IFR and continue the flight under VFR, he must have completed the training course requirement. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hmm. I can't find a reference to training being required between DME30 and DME60 other than in the AOPA material. Do you know where to find it in the FAA NOTAMs?

Fltplan.com does the same. Sends me an e-mail with ATC planned route and then if it changes I get an e-mail with amended route.

Mike, great video! Required viewing for all student pilots Since i got my AoA I've become completely habituated to glancing at it during the downwind-base and the base-final turn. Even on final I rarely glance down at the AS any more glancing instead at the AoA on the glareshield. Robert

For a moment there I thought it was Primrose Hill!! We lived on Ainger Road, then on Henstridge Place in St John's Wood before moving to Harpenden. We've been back a number of times visiting old friends and still love the "Tea Cozy" and Odette's and Maison Blanc on St John's Wood High Street. Happy memories Before my time, during WW II that was the location of an AA battery. Also a spectacular place from which to watch the local fireworks set off in Regents Park. Unfortunately insurance requirements forced them to be discontinued
