  1. Sorry, current forecast is for 1000-2000ft ceilings and less than 1 mile viz, dropping to less than 1/2 mile and 200ft by 1pm. That means icing all the way I'm sure so I'm out. http://www.usairnet.com/cgi-bin/launch/code.cgi?state=MD&sta=KCGE Robert
  2. Mike, great video! Required viewing for all student pilots Since i got my AoA I've become completely habituated to glancing at it during the downwind-base and the base-final turn. Even on final I rarely glance down at the AS any more glancing instead at the AoA on the glareshield. Robert
  3. For a moment there I thought it was Primrose Hill!! We lived on Ainger Road, then on Henstridge Place in St John's Wood before moving to Harpenden. We've been back a number of times visiting old friends and still love the "Tea Cozy" and Odette's and Maison Blanc on St John's Wood High Street. Happy memories Before my time, during WW II that was the location of an AA battery. Also a spectacular place from which to watch the local fireworks set off in Regents Park. Unfortunately insurance requirements forced them to be discontinued

  5. At those settings and altitudes I get between 172 and 175 kts, just like Greg
  6. 9000 or 9500 or 8000 or 8500ft (10k+ if the winds favor that) WOT 2550 rpm 50 LOP, 12.5 - 13.5 gph
  7. Congratz! It's on my bucket list...need to motivate myself for the written first the flying part is always fun
  8. Russ, as you probably know I had this problem as well and did post on it. Have an update that may or not apply. My trim would stick and then started running away. After 2 incidents I realized it wasn't a fluke. Local A&P (who is quite good and has worked on a variety of Mooneys) couldn't find anything. 1) Avionics shop found that the pitch servo had worn brushes. Worn brushes = dust in the servo. New brushes/rebuilt servo....runaway trim problem solved.....but...sticky trim still a problem. Trim would roll then stop, often requiring a forceful manual tug to get it going again. No pattern that I could identify. 2) A&P tearing his hair out, can't find anything. Calls out of the blue, he had a brainstorm remembering something from another aircraft years ago. Wires connecting the various yoke switches can chafe and wear. If the electric trim is operating while the yoke is moving the chafed wires then the trim can freeze. He demonstrated it on the ground. Went in and got all the wires out and several were chafed. All were replaced. 3) no more sticky trim!! This may be a red herring rather than addressing your problem, but if all else has been tried see if this isn't a factor. You never know. Robert
  9. Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah and all the best in 2017 to all you (us) crazy Mooniacs :)!
  10. Thanks for the update Russ. Haven't done it yet but its in the budget for 2017 Robert
  11. Hang in there Joe, I can relate As Dan wrote, from here on in us North Easterners have the added challenge of really having to pick our days, sometimes even hours (as I don't have a FIKI bird). But the short days also provide an opportunity Ceilings permitting I'll squeeze in 3 night currency T/Os and landings tomorrow.
  12. Thanks Craig, much appreciated!
  13. https://www.facebook.com/PatientAirLiftServices/?hc_ref=NEWSFEED&fref=nf Brett got a nice shout-out on the PALS FB page for flying little Nyla part of the way to her medical appointment. Way to go Brett!
  14. No official knowledge, but will add my real world data point. 4 weeks ago I was on a PALS flight passing Boston (Northbound). I got some strange vectors, then was told: Compassion Flight 6PC traffic your 10 o'clock 4 miles, 2 ship a 747 and a F-35. They must have been out of Pease AFB. In and out of the clouds I called in negative contact. Next call was Air Force 1 turn right 40 deg. As the aircraft is only called AF1 when the prez is on board I assume he was. But there were no TFRs anywhere near Boston that day. Completely unannounced. robert
  15. Aviation Consumer recommends the AeroLed Sunspot unless you really, really need HID lights. http://www.aviationconsumer.com/issues/45_5/maintenancematters/HID-vs-LED-Brightness-Costs-Bucks_6750-1.html
  16. Welcome on board and congratz on your new ride Robert
  17. 0K, thanks for clarifying. Here in New England it looks like you're almost immediately after takeoff in "rule airspace" so the Class B & C will be a non-issue.
  18. The AC doesn't specify Class B or C airspace. Is there an other source that indicates we need to do the test flight in Bravo or Charlie? That's a bummer for people in remote areas, and for those in busy airspace. I can only imagine the reaction of the New York Tracon: Good afternoon NY Approach...Mooney 6PC would like to loiter in your Class Bravo for the next hour.... I'm not funny enough to come up with the likely response but it'll be a doozy
  19. Several other recent threads on this topic, although mostly from a US perspective. South of the border several of us got the same argument, but others (myself included with only 200hrs M20R time) got nice reductions through Falcon (Texas based agency).
  20. I had a leaky O ring/seal last year resulting in a large amount of water in one of the tanks and just had it replaced (them actually, the shop replaced the O rings for both tanks). No trouble afterwards and my AP didn't recommend additional testing. Reads to me like you did a very thorough job checking that you were safe before heading out. As Anthony likes to say: just another PPL here, not an AP myself. Robert
  21. I'm with Matt My wife is from Arlington Heights and we lived in Evanston for 10 years. Always been drawn to rooting for underdogs, which they were for way too long. At least now i can start catching up on sleep....a few late nights this week.
  22. Good to hear, and thanks for the update.
  23. Yep, that's what I was quoted by my local avionics shop as well.
  24. Call Cliff at Falcon and tell him Mooneyspace sent you He renewed mine in August for a nice reduction in premiums. I had asked him about the rumors about rates going up and if memory serves me correctly he didn't think that was the case across the board. Which he then proved with the improved quote . Robert
