  1. I love those days!
  2. If it has already been determined you are replacing the cylinders ask for the old cylinders back and test them yourself. A light polish with a Dremel and a dye test after is pretty simple, I would be curious to see what you find.
  3. I would Bet those are casting artifacts. I had the same concern with mine but with a little polishing and some dye it was determined it wasn’t a crack. I can’t find my original photo but here is one the you can see the same line between the injector and plug. The first picture is after an injector install and shows a similar line that is not a crack. The second picture is the cylinder that looked just like yours that we polished and dyed and is a follow up picture.
  4. What a loss to our community! I had the pleasure to talk to Bennett on a couple times on a few of the west coast fly in. He will be missed!
  5. Point the nose down:)
  6. There are a few options. Shuttle, cab and car rental. The shuttle used to be $15 per person each way. Cab was about $35 each way and car rental varies but could be as low as $50 for the day. I don’t know the exact amounts anymore because I have access to a friends airport car. Call Hot Creek Aviation and they can give you better numbers. They are a very down to earth group of people. Uber has been limited up there but is getting better. If you want to store a car at the airport it’s $80 a month.
  7. I look at the steel cage in a Mooney more as an energy absorption device than a roll cage. It’s better than other aluminum aircraft but not like a race car. Race cars dissipate the energy by actually rolling with planes that usually not the case.
  8. Did the same thing on the 9th. San Diego to Mammoth mountain. I call it my 5 to 5’s, leave the house at 5am and back in the house at 5pm. Nothing better than weekday skiing!
  9. Most likely ATC gave him the altitudes.
  10. After 9 hours of flying I would be drinking a beer and come back here tomorrow to talk shop! Nice flight!!
  11. Maybe you could use the money donated to do an airplane buyback and get them out of the air! Lol!!
  12. Very Very sorry!
  13. The POH does have LOP settings for the ovation.
  14. At a puny 16K you must be flying too much!:)
  15. When I joined I believe you where in the 2000 zone and I thought that was a lot back then.
  16. I went in 2015 and not nearly as big as it is today. It is a great event!
  17. I have never had a problem with heat. No matter how high or cold out it will blow hot air for me. I have the opposite problem that the blowing vent air in the summer time is diluting my A/C making it harder to cool the cabin. I did improve my door seals which helped a lot. I could hold a pierce of paper and it would suck right up to the door before. This would suck out cold or hot air. I want to find out more about the vent hole closures.
  18. That sounds like a great system! How long does it take for a typical Mooney installation? What is the retail cost?
  19. It could also be an exhaust leak blasting the probe.
  20. Yes we need to know the nuances of our individual planes and I probably over simplified my first statement and made it to general. I will change it to if we start and finish with relatively the same oil level with our planes nuances accounted for you will have a better sample. I had a J and would change the oil with 6 quarts because of what you mentioned. I now have an Eagle with and it seems like the consensus seems to be keep it 1 quart over.
  21. I didn’t mean to suggest putting a quart in immediately prior to oil sampling but oil time and concentration play a big part in oil samples.
  22. It was interesting wearing it this morning. I tend to hold my breath a lot when I concentrate. I was surprised how often I momentarily dropped below 92%. I would only wear it once in cruise because it does interfere when your button pushing and knob turning during the busy phases of flight. These can be utilized just as the other pulse oximeter but the idea is that in a hypoxia situation you might nor be alert enough to check every 10 minutes and the alarm would be necessary.
  23. By your reasoning which I’m not saying is incorrect it wouldn’t make a difference either way if they take in account the amount of make up oil. The chemistry would go both ways.
  24. Who are the oil manufacturers engineers and what did they intend? Who is Ed Kollin what are his intentions?
