Yes, I have flown a Bonanza and honestly enjoyed almost every plane I have flown. If I was constantly hand flying either plane for long cross country or IMC flights I still prefer the feel of the Mooney. Let’s face it autopilot does most of this work. I also didn’t like how the V tails like to wag their tails in anything but perfect air. I felt like the mid body and especially the long bodies didn’t do this as much and wouldn’t get the passengers sick. I personally don’t fit very well in the Bonanza my head get cramped into the ceiling. I will eventually probably buy a turbo normalized A36 and have the cushions modified so I fit. I now have a family of 5 but rarely do we fly together. I would be more interested in those barn doors for loading everything and the A36 doesn’t yaw and wag it’s tail like the V tails.

I’m not familiar with all the systems the S35 has in it. I am jealous of the S35 landing gear. I think comparing a vintage plane vs modern in regards to useful load is hard. Does the S35 have the redundancy (batteries, busses, alternators) and built in O2 like an Ovation? I recall many early ovations having 1100 Lb UL and don’t have the CG issues. All brands get fat with age:) As far as horsepower and climb goes. The Eagle will be faster, most efficient and have less climb with only 240 hp. The Ovation will be faster, more efficient and climb as well with 280 hp. The O3 will be faster, more efficient and climb better than all of them with 310 hp. Handling is always a personal preference for your type of flying. I tend to fly straight and level a lot for traveling. I’m not out dog fighting so I have appreciated the stable controls especially in IMC of the Mooney. Now if I was racing pylons or flying bush planes then I would get more excited about handling. My biggest complaint with Mooney’s for my personal use are the small cargo door. I wish I could load bikes, cooler and saddles easier and it not be such a process. My plane has 1057 Lbs UL and I have air conditioning.

Mixture too lean; misfires; 0.7 GAMI spread

Give Tim’s aircraft engines in Long Beach a call. Excellent shop and he can give you a couple options to save money if you have good accessories. -
Oh yah, that NOTAM thing:) I knew there was probably another good reason why I didn’t do it. This was is as close as I have ever got. Most people had already left.

That road looked perfect to land on. Such a bummer! http://www.kathrynsreport.com/2019/08/mooney-m20c-ranger-n78988-incident.html

Any concern about drones when your doing scenic flights? I have flown over the last 4 out of 5 years going places and always wanted to do a low pass. The fear of drone activity has always kept me from doing it.

I don’t fly IFR flight plans over mountainous terrain unless I’m only going to be in and out of little puffy white clouds. For the most part it’s not going to be the most favorable route and will take you far out of your way. I fly best altitude to glide to roads, lakes and survivable landing areas. Sometimes that’s a 1000 feet above a road or 17.5 MSL. Just watch your DA on take off and winds aloft. Anything more than 22 kts at the mountain peaks it going to get pretty bumpy.

Bonanza ditching in the Pacific

If you ever ditch, hopefully will not ever have to, I will with out a doubt believe your story. You should be getting ready for Burning Man anyway and not reading this stuff:) -
Bonanza ditching in the Pacific
kmyfm20s replied to tigers2007's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I fly with life vest all the time because I fly the coast line of California but also when I fly over the Sierras. I have determined that if I have an engine out over the sierras that several of my best options are going into lakes. -
Bonanza ditching in the Pacific

This very well could be a legitimate ditching but it’s very hard to give a guy craving so much attention kudos for a great job. He has burned up (pun intended) a lot of public resources in the past and it reminds me of the little boy that cried wolf, no one believes you when it’s real. -
Looks great!

like the perfect firewood?

As mention above, Pitot cover and drain the lines on preflight. Some people put static port covers on. The only time I got ever got water in mine was when the detailer pressure washed my static port thoroughly. The rain must have had the perfect angle on your ports. Always drain on preflight.

A disappointing lack of security, really pathetic!

My experience is at non towered airports at busy arrival times when it’s actual IFR and the aircraft have to cancel on the ground.

The only holds I see are published on the VOR missed approaches. I would assume that is what the controller would be referring to but would ask for clarification.

Wash it and then wax it thoroughly with a paste wax for best protection. After that the spray on wash and wax works well.

O2 310 HP STC Conversion Question(s)
kmyfm20s replied to flyingscot's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Allen head inside orifice. They say the safety wire stays in place and need to shorten the Allen wrench. FYI...This is only to only be done by your mechanic. This is just so you know where they would adjust it. -
The nut is probably just loose on the linkage of the heater control box allowing the cable to slide.

O2 310 HP STC Conversion Question(s)
kmyfm20s replied to flyingscot's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Many shops will not adjust FF to the desired level because the STC specifies 27.2 gph. That puts you right at maximum performance mixture at 50 degrees ROP which makes for some really hot cylinders. The funny thing is the factory O3’s POH shows the FF redline at 30 gph so shops are ok if you asked for them to bump those up higher. The hanger fairies say it’s pretty easy to adjust FF with the right size Allen wrench and 1/4 turn at a time until proper FF is achieved. Rumors has it it takes about 1 1/2 turns to get it to 29.2 Gph . After 29.2 gph they found you get some engine stumbling when you go full rich on landing. I don’t usually go full rich on landing but if I needed to do a go around I don’t want the potential of the engine stumbling or stalling. If I need extra cooling on takeoff which I do at times in the heat of the summer the low boost pump gives me the little extra I need. A properly calibrated FF gauge and engine monitor is essential. -
O2 310 HP STC Conversion Question(s)
kmyfm20s replied to flyingscot's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
Yes, stc increases FF to 27.2 gph at sea level. I keep mine at 29.2 but would not go less than 28.6 myself. -
I would take a look at an Aerostar.

Darn, didn’t hear anything recently so my plane went into the shop and I’m out of town for the weekend. You all have fun!
