  1. So far I have been very impressed with my smooth LOP operation. My plane doesn't get ruff, it simply will starve itself of gas. CHT and EGT drop very rapidly and evenly. I still need to figure out my GAMI spread but off hand it look pretty tight. Which is what got me thinking of Injector Cleaner for those that have a large Gami spread and ruff LOP operation.
  2. Good point on the sealant of the gas tanks and not being approved kind of wraps up this subject, thanks for the input!
  3. Does anybody use it, recommend it or have found any benefit from it? I just put some in my Jeep and it really seemed to help out, it runs smoother. My Jeep tends to sit on and off for periods of time which my plane doesn't so it might not help out as much. This is more out of curiously than necessity.
  4. Yes, what goes in must come out! If for some reason any of you take a ride in my plane stay away from the Gatorade bottle! That one for sure gets the swivel.
  5. Lol, if requires an STC it would probably be cheaper to sell my "J" and buy an Ovation 2! Thanks for the recommendation, that will work great. My favorite flight in the morning is an "IFR to VFR on top" of the overcast layer in San Diego. Get on top, pop on the autopilot, sip my coffee and check out all the mountain tops that look like Island in the clouds.
  6. I leave early in the morning to commute to my various offices anywhere from 1 to 3 times a week and I love my coffee in the morning. I find my self chugging it just prior to jumping into the plane because it is such a hassle having no cup holders. I have used various thermos mugs but those still tend to leak and there is no where to keep them upright and secure when the work load goes up. Anyone have any ideas? I have done the search, so if it has been answered please direct me to the correct thread. Thanks!
  7. Yes this was upsetting! I got the feeling he had his auto pilot on the majority of time and got in trouble after he disengaged it. I only say that because he was IMC the majority of the time and made several turns with straight tracks according to the AOPA video. I bet he saw a sucker hole and was going for it and got disoriented.
  8. Any updates?
  9. I will have to read more on prop efficiency, I have a 2 blade. I was attracted to the LOP climb because I routinely fly from a below sea level airport KIPL in the summer time at 100 plus temps. I have been doing what I learned and is exactly what I not supposed to do and climb out at 50 to 100 ROP. I have always had a hard time keeping CHT down. This luckily has been in previous planes and yes I went through cylinders but the mechanics at the time said I was doing it right. This is a new plane and the first Mooney I have owned but flown many in the past. I have not tried the target EGT in the summer time yet to see if the CHT will stay below 380, looking forward to it.
  10. Gotcha! Might be missing as a result of the server crash. Thanks for the reply.
  11. Great info! You helped answer a few questions I have had after reading John Deakin's series of articles. I plan on starting to run LOP but wanted some general fuel flow to start off with. I was hoping those of you using this method could help me out. I have a 82 M20J and my airport is 425' ASL. I was planning on taking off full rich target EGT, which puts me around 22gph. At 1000' dial the prop back to 2600 RPM and continue to climb to 2500 feet which get me above all the adjacent airspace. At 2500' I was going to transition to LOP climb which from the above aaronk25 says should be approximately 10.4gph and which Deakin show on his graph should be 30 LOP on the rich side and 60 on the lean side. Continue my climb to 7500' and adjusting .1-.2 GPH ever 1000' in the climb if needed. Transition to cruise simply by dialing back RPM which I think I will pick 2500 to start with and slight mixture adjustments if even required. Start descending by simply pointing the nose down and decreasing RPM as the IAS increases to high. Does that sound correct?
  12. Good job!
  13. Crown Air at KMYF has always treated me right!
  14. Thanks! I just bought one but the plane has been grounded for a NAV repair. I have been looking forward to trying it in the air. It worked great on the ground. I bought it because I was not super happy with the phone/stereo on my GMA 350.
  15. With all the great videos you you have made, you might need to organize " La Tour De Mooney Mexicana " for all of us Mooney pilots:)
  16. I had a similar issue as you and ended up rebuilding the mags, it run perfectly now. No oil in the mags but signs of arcing, very little soot marks when the mags where opened up. I use Crown Air in San Diego on my home field, very good Mooney mechanics.
  17. I would check the manaul gear extention latch between the seats. Make sure it is all the way in place because there is a sensor in it. What you discrbed happened to me but i was on the ground taxing. I had both the gear down and the gear unsafe light on. I opened the latch and then resecured it and took care of the problem. Hope that helps and its that simple.
  18. 6'4" and no problems in my J. In a Bonanza I hit my head.
  19. I did the carpet, kick boards and back seats on my 82 M20J myself, and I felt like that was an easy DIY project. The trickier stuff, the front seats, panel inserts and the arm rest (materials) that I purchased from Airtex. I took thoose items to a local auto upolstery place to have done and then installed them myself. Everything turned out great, it looks updated and very happy with leather quality.
  20. How does the prop fly when the Mooney comes off?
