Would that be a Mooney error or Continental error? I thought the engines come complete and then are hung on the airframe? That being said the buck stops with Mooney on the final inspection before the plane rolls off the production line.

Soak in Vinegar then diesel fuel.

A frozen or clogged pitot tube would not be fun on the ILS in IMC if the that was the case. -

Switch Tanks, Switch Tanks, Switch Tanks!
kmyfm20s replied to donkaye's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I have the MVP-50 and the EI fuel senders which I have found to be very accurate as well. When calibrating your senders didn’t you have to put the 3 unusable gallons in first and start your calibration from there? When my gauge says zero I need to take note of the fuel quantity from the fuel totalizer to know when the tanks going to run dry. After 3 more gallons is burned off and when the fuel pressure starts getting erratic then I know I’m only a few drops of fuel from being dry. Most of the time I don’t want to stare at the monitor that long so I just listen to the engine. This is the bonus 3 gallon or 15 minute benefit of running a tank dry. -

Tops where around 5K and freezing level around 7K. Not saying it wasn’t ice but I wouldn’t think that was it. -

Amazing! I wouldn’t think this was possible and that I’ve never seen this before.

YouTube has all answers:) I personally think if you can remove a spark plug or remove your oils drain plug you can remove an oil screen. The problem is that usually the last person that did it either over tighten or stripped the head. Don’t be that guy! The oil screen is towards the end of this video.

New MSC in San Diego - Coast Air Center- any pireps?
kmyfm20s replied to JohnB's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I always used Crown before and was very happy with them. Bill and Dave were the last of the truly MSC trained mechanic. I was sorry to see them go. Bill went to Coast after Crown but I think it was to big of Culture shock and ended up leaving. If he continued at coast I would have used them. Most of them were offered jobs at High Performance at Gillespie field but they weren’t going to add Mooney’s for servicing. They were going to have them recondition older Piper’s and Bonaza’s. Not sure if that happened or not. I was happy with Gibbs that did my last annual but I will probably find another MSC for every other annual. Not sure which I’m going to select yet. New MSC in San Diego - Coast Air Center- any pireps?
kmyfm20s replied to JohnB's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
All of the old Mooney staff From Crown is gone. Coast retained one critical person for a little bit but he left shortly after. I do see Mooney’s in there but not like Crown had. FWIW I did not use them for my annual, I used another non MSC shop on my field because I had a better relationship with the mechanics and felt like they had as much or more Mooney experience. Coast shop rates where higher than the all others when I checked but still a lot less than the Mercedes dealers. -

Rifle(KRIL), Eagle(KEGE) or Kremmling(20V)?
kmyfm20s replied to kmyfm20s's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I appreciate your concern. I have plenty of high altitude and mountain flying experience. I was more concerned with the recommendations of the airports and people’s experience with them. It looks like all 3 airports list cars available to rent, hangars to rent and possibly electricity to plug into? To give an example when I go skiing in Deer Valley I used to fly into Heber City. This is a great airport in the summer time but in winter time your plane will frost over and they don’t have electricity to plug your engine heater into. That wasn’t too big of deal since I have a little generator for the engine heater and propylene glycol to help get the frost off or I could put the plane in a hangar the night before I left. But what stop me from flying there and start using KSLC instead was the ground fog that would sit in the valley and take hours to clear out. It turned out to be worth the extra time driving.- 29 replies

My mom was born in Colorado(Telluride)and my grandfather was a rancher on the western slope. We used to do our summer motorhome trips throughout the Rockies and would hit all the hot springs. This was before they all became commercialized. As a young boy it was pretty exciting seeing all the naked hippy girls:) They closed hot springs by Mammoth mountain because the source would have unpredictable upwelling of scolding water. After enough dummies ignored the warning signs and cooked themselves they finally closed them. Now there are only a few small warm springs available around the area with people you don’t really want to share the bath water with.- 29 replies
