  1. Positive it's taxable. If the rebate was from the dealer or manufacturer, it would be considered a price adjustment and NOT be taxable. Also a 1099 is only required at or above $600, so don't expect a 1099. It's still taxable. Entered it as "other income" in my tax software but have not actually filed yet.
  2. Remember rebates are taxable income in the year received.
  3. If I were the OP I'd try the POH start sequence before looking elsewhere
  4. I owned a 64E for 2000 hours, and the IO360 is a world of difference. Give the POH O360 start procedure a try.
  5. I was surprised by your start procedure. You start with boost pump off and mixture leaned? We start our 65C by the book (POH). Mixture full forward, boost pump on, pump throttle 2-3 times (maybe 4 times if its really cold), then engage starter.
  6. https://www.trade-a-plane.com/search?category_level1=Single+Engine+Piston&make=MOONEY&model=M20K+231&listing_id=2247105&s-type=aircraft Perfect except it's there and not here, and that annoying G- registration change.
  7. "Supposedly sealed 3 yrs. ago"?? Either they were or they weren't. Who did the re-seal?
  8. You do have the option of telling him to sign off your annual with discrepancies. Then you would be free to have another A&P endorse the ferry permit. I had bladders installed in my 64E back in 2001, and was happy with them for 11 years until my insurance company bought the E. However, if your current fuel system is safe to allow the ferry flight, you do have an option.
  9. He used rubbing alcohol, which is isopropanol with 9% water content. I would have liked to see the same test using 99%+ IPA.
  10. Somehow I don't think AL will be ready for a timely birthday present, unless this is 2018's present. IIRC your 2017 birthday coincides with our Presidential Inauguration. So Happy Birthday. When you take AL up for the first few flights, stay out of heavy rain. The paint may still be curing for some time, and you don't want to damage your leading edge paint. I speak from experience.
  11. Actually, 18,000 IFR or VFR
  12. It didn't "pass" today. Effective 5/1/17
  13. So is the Cirrus recoverable? Heli lift?
  14. If you do attempt a land, be sure to move your aircraft a bit if it will sit awhile. Otherwise your tires maybe sufficiently warm to slightly melt the ice under them and then re-freeze to the surface. This could possibly delaying your departure until spring. Don't ask me how I know this.
  15. Easy non-stop back home
  16. Actually, a MSer with the name N17AC, from back in 2014, owned her in Atlanta. What she looked like before the recent re-paint. Should only need 1 fuel stop to get back from Charleston SC, unless winds are really fierce.
  17. I've intentionally run tanks empty in both my C and former E to check fuel indication or stretch range (not intending to start a debate on if that's a good idea or not). My experience is that the injected engine will generally stop with no warning, while the C typically sputters and also displays more warning in the form of a fuel pressure drop prior to stopping.
  18. No specifics, but IIRC if engine does stop you need to retard throttle before you restart. Same action is required before you restart if you happen to run a tank dry. If you don't, you can potentially cause a backfire and blow apart your muffler.
  19. We see similar high pressure readings at low power, sometimes even when on the mechanical pump only. Engine operation is smooth, and runs at the mid-to-upper green in cruise.
  20. It's best to have the weight off the tires (i.e. on jacks) when greasing the gear.
  21. Bladders installed in my 64E by DMax in 2001, Kept in hangar and no issues until N1310W was totaled in 2012.
  22. Maybe I don't understand your question. Isn't the stall warning activated by the "flapper", which senses the change from laminar to turbulent flow on the leading edge, independent of gear position?
  23. To be fair, you would need to save about $500/yr to save up for those Lyc angled-valve cylinders on the IO, compared to the half-price cylinders on the O-360.
  24. Bob, I owned a 64E for 23 years (about 2000 hours), and have had my 65C since 2012. Carb icing is not nearly as prevalent in the M20C as you imply. I can tell you that without fuel injection I no longer worry about fouled injectors, or about a fuel delivery issue that might result in a forced landing (Google "NTSB N1310W"). Point is, it's hard to beat a vintage Mooney for cost effective personal travel. One issue Marcus would have with the J is missing out on the simplicity of manual gear :)!
  25. Seems that you have other flight hazards to consider. Maybe you should avoid altitudes below 5000'? Reference this: "A total of 3.5 trillion insects weighing a combined 3,200 tons migrated annually over a region in south-central England monitored with specialized radar and a balloon-supported aerial netting system. The researchers tracked the migration of insects at altitudes between 492 feet and 3,937 feet." http://www.toledoblade.com/Medical/2016/12/26/Health-and-Sicence-Briefs-Trillions-of-insects-tracked-flying-across-Britain.html
