  1. Before you send your KX155 out, maybe you know someone who will allow you to do a quick and temporary swap? That maybe the easiest way to determine if it's the unit or other factors. If you were closer to Memphis, I would be willing. For repairs, I recommend Bevan Rabell in Wichita
  2. The shop that has done my annuals for years did a paint touchup after we bought our current M20C. They did it while we were in for annual, did a fine job and at minimal cost. AFAIK they don't operate a "paint shop".
  3. Recently spent 18 days on a 42' sailboat in and around Menorca. Never sailed in the dark, always VFR. But we had radar collision avoidance alerts, which would occasionally also alert as we approached land. I'd guess that most well equipped medium-to-large pleasure boats are similarly equipped. But, a human can easily ignore the alert.
  4. What was a $100 burger is now a $20k ice cream!
  5. I once had the lip seal go from "no known leak" to "oil on the windshield" on a XC flight years back. I ended up delaying my return by a couple of days and had an A&P install a new seal. Guess what I'm saying is your OK to fly it BUT you just might see that leak get much worse.
  6. Was the prop greased recently? It's not uncommon to see some excess right after maintenance.
  7. I will not be going to Oshkosh.
  8. This was already done when the installation was checked by the 2nd avionics shop. Here's what my partner, who brought our Mooney in said after the visit: We found out that it it was installed properly and works properly. It's a design issue regarding the angle of the display. I looked at it while it was wired up on the bench. The display looks fine when you're looking at it straight on and from above. As you move lower it fades.
  9. Just to put a close to this rather old thread, where I posted that my KT74 display was extremely dim to the point that it's difficult to read in sunlight...........after several return visits to my shop, including installation of an exchange unit, the display remained dim, Recently we visited a different avionics shop. The technician's initial response, after looking at my panel, was that "that's not right (i.e. too dim), and it needs to be either fixed or returned". However, after that shop had many discussions with BK customer service, and they checked our installation, we were told that the KT74 was installed & working correctly. Bottom line - I'm flying behind a new KT74 that works fine, except that the display is often too dim to read without using my hand to shade the display. Based on my experience, I obvious cannot recommend the KT74.
  10. list and link please
  11. Currently sailing off Menorca with infrequent internet so just read your post. Look at last line in NTSB report for N1310W, July 2012. Pices of a torn o-ring. Early symptoms were sudden roughness and/or significant loss of poster, usually on departure but once on arrival.
  12. Speaking of blind darts, my intermittent issues with an IO360A1A went on for a couple of years. My issue ended when an internal fault in the fuel servo block flow to all injectors, resulting in a forced landing and total loss. That's after I worked on cleaning injectors, cleaning and changing plugs, and had fuel injection OHed. After each step, such as cleaning injectors, problems would disappear for awhile. I now have no injectors and life is good.
  13. I had just moved to VA in 1989 and was looking for a C172/182. Met a pilot looking at a M20E, and we ended up as partners. Had never sat in a Mooney or considered one until that moment.
  14. It only took 5 years to sell the business!

  16. Also I believe Old Bridge has a very capable Mooney shop, which is always nice if the unexpected issue crops up.
  17. I'm interested as well. I have a 65C, and haven't been to Patti's in a decade. Depending on the date, we may be able to line up an E, F and C at M34.
  18. It maybe model dependent but in early C/Es the cig lighter has an inline fusible link set at 8amp. Should not be a problem for a USB adapter.
  19. Recent re-branding to Phillips 66 has KAWM at $3.37 SS. Full service is discounted $0.20 off of $4.49.
  20. I owned a 64E from 1989 to 2012, and my current 65C since 2012. With about 2200 hours in the E & C my experience is that the C's performance is not that different from the E. Carb heat is not that big a deal in the C, and I personally prefer the simplicity of a carb over fuel injection. I would shop for both models, and pick one based on condition, equipment and price.
  21. When I parked at KSDL last November, I found that I could self-serve fuel near Ross for at least $3/gal less than their full service rate, and then park at Ross and avoid their ramp fee. Just showed them the self-serve receipt. Scottsdale ended up being much cheaper than the alternative airports, and way more convenient for me.
  22. I replaced the factory EGT with a Aerospace EGT in both of my Mooneys. Fits in you EGT hole to provide 4-channel EGT function. While not a full-fledged monitor, having full EGT coverage gives you a lot of troubleshooting capability at a fraction of the cost.
  23. After I retired the first time in 2015, I did some consulting as a chemical facility auditor. As an example, for the last audit the Mooney allowed me to shave 1-2 days off of what would otherwise been a 5 day 3-facility assignment. There were no practical commercial air options. My client saved money. I billed out-of-pocket for Mooney expenses, 2 rental cars for a total of 3 days. If I had driven, the auto mileage and additional 2 days hotel and meals would have exceeded those expenses. They also saved, and I lost, since I billed them for 12 hours less time. But I did get to fly. Until you gain experience and an IR, it's still only marginally practical. i may resume auditing after I re-retire in a week.
