triple8s Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Well.....I traded my beloved in and it will be for sale very soon if anyone is interested in a 1965 C model I participated in all the annuals but one and know every nook and cranny. I cared for her since 2008. She's got almost every speed mod, looks like a 201, low time engine and prop. Has 430/SL30 and HSI 2 glide slopes, an stec60-2 and an engine monitor just too many mods and options to cover here. She has old damage history but was repaired 6 yr ago. If I wasn't married I would have kept her too but wife said ABSOLUTELY NOT. 1 Quote
flight2000 Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Sorry to hear about your lose. So what is the wife GIVING up in exchange? Brian 1 Quote
Ned Gravel Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 I would offer condolences, but it does not appear that you are all that broken up about this decision. My wife loves to fly and she loves to share my passion for flying. I win both ways. Not all of us are as lucky - although there is really more than luck in that outcome. If it was me, and if this was an old argument (we are nearly 35 years along now), I would probably not have purchased my (our) Mooney 8 years ago. (She calls it "Baby", not me!!) If she was a new wife, she wouldn't have made it past that checkbox. I hope you keep flying - even if it is something lower and slower. (Nimis Brevis vita est Volare Tarde) Edit: Whew!! Quote
captainglen Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Your wife must be one hell of a woman, mine is a beauty, 20 years younger than I am and I might give up a Cessna for her as long as it is not a 210 but not a Mooney. To me there are only two things that bring real thrills into your life, a great woman and a great airplane; my greatest nightmare would be to have to choose between the two. My woman has mixed feelings about our mooney but took a lot more pride in it once I named it after her. Quote
Marauder Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 I'm all for equality in a marriage, but having a wife that was not supportive of my addiction would have crossed the line. My wife is constantly nagging me for us to go out and fly somewhere. And although my avionics upgrade cost could have resulted in a divorce, she was supportive of it. Of course, I live with some of her unique hobbies as well... Quote
dcrogers11 Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 What is the asking price and location? Don Quote
Bob_Belville Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Don't give it away. I hate to see planes changing hands at desperation prices. They're not making any more Mooneys and the good ones should be worth a price representative of their usefulness. (Disclosure, I have a few extra bucks invested in an old E and I hope my heirs get a decent % of that back.) My wife is not that confident a flyer but she trusts her pilot. And she like to visit far away grandsons. I can always remind her she was the one who gave me my first lesson under the Xmas tree (in 1968) so... Quote
1964-M20E Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Sorry to hear about your lose. So what is the wife GIVING up in exchange? Brian Ditto My wife puts up with the plane and she likes it to go see our daughter, son-in-law and grandson which would be a 10 hour drive instead of 3-4 hour flight and about 5 hours door to door. Did you get the plane before or after your wife? If before she knew what she was getting if after then I guess you need to find a way to sweet talk her. However, you said traded in? did you get another plane or is it just on consignment with a broker? Quote
mike_elliott Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 My story is that I had my plane before I met my sweetie. In fact, I flew into LUK to meet her the first time, where after an afternoon of date type things, she asked if I would take her flying in my plane. Game over side out. She was hooked. Its now our plane, and she loves our aluminum mistress as much as I. I owe my wonderful relationship with Alice to Mooney. Don't ever forget, however, 1 AMU=1 JMU. This will preserve the delicate balance of woman vs. machine. 1 Quote
triple8s Posted August 21, 2013 Author Report Posted August 21, 2013 HEAVENS I did NOT put myself into a Mooneyless situation...... many have divorced and found another..... but a Good Mooney is not so easily found LMAO.... I traded for an O that needs a little TLC and I just hope 880 gets a deserving pilot who will baby her. I traded to the folks in Morristown, so if anyone were to be looking for a short body LOADED with mods and has ALL the paperwork and logbooks since day one this is your bird. Flight plan 147Kts and O-360 lyc simplicity. I know the old bird very well indeed it could be had for upper 40's maybe mid 40's. I worked for the last 5plus years getting everything in order, spent 1500$ last spring getting the Autopilot paperwork straightened out. I had all logbooks since the first flight test made in late 1964. Was and is a very nice simple/complex A/C, took several trips to the coast on less than 20 gal, leave on friday afternoon, get unpacked and beat the dinner crowds, Truly a time machine. Now I have an "O" that I will work with, yes it has damage history but I KNOW it. Thats the big thing with me not whether or not it has it but KNOWING it has it. Then you have to ask "Am I ok with the repairs?" Fortunately I live close enough to unexpectedly drop in frequently and see how thing were done. Knowledge is the key. 1 Quote

Marauder Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Roger Trripple 8s. We copy you got a bunch of guys about to turn blue. We’re breathing again. Yeah, that was emotionally draining for sure... To think one of us actually let our wives tell us what to do.... Er, nothing honey, I'll be there in a second to put the dishes away... Gotta go guys. Bob_Belville Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Glad that's cleared up. I don't suppose even a good wife has to be OK with 2 Mooneys mistresses at once. 1 Quote
thinwing Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Well thats a relief...as a soon to be remarried Mooney guy...I was getting nervous about whether i needed to add additional aircraft ownership into my prenup. Quote
1964-M20E Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Well the O can be for the long trips and now you can get you something for low and slow fun . Your wife can't argue against that of course what am I talking aobut mine wouldn't let me get a second plane but I'm gald she lets me keep one. However, she does not know the true cost of it either. flight2000 Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 All is good and right, nothing to see here... move along.... Man, I need your wife to talk to mine now... Brian Quote
